SriLankan Airlines to add an airbus to its fleet
SriLankan Airlines will add another Airbus A320 to its fleet of nine aircraft in April. The airline's management has already obtained board approval for a six-year lease of the aircraft and induction of the new A320 is scheduled for late April. However the airline states it has not made any conclusive decision to make any changes to its existing fleet.
With the addition of the short haul A320 the airline's fleet will increase to ten, comprising three A340s, four A330s and three A320s. The government meanwhile has indicated to the airline that they plan to expand international air services into Colombo to which the airline has responded positively.
The airline is now looking at increasing capacity of its current fleet with the possible acquisition of additional long haul aircraft, a media release by SriLankan stated. SriLankan Airlines' Board of Directors has authorised the management to explore options for fleet expansion, it added.
This has been mooted for a while now, good to see that this has come to fruition. This additional A320 will probably be used for the extra services to India in particular and maybe Karachi will come online soon as well. The bit about the changes to the fleet is interesting, I wasn't aware of any developments on this matter...
