This is great to hear for jetBlue will be flying to SAN flight. Go jetBlue Go!!!  Big thumbs up Keep it up really need with the new cities from JFK-SAN flight for now and I do already knew that about Delta once before with nonstop from JFK-SAN flight by the years ago. Don't you even remember of Delta flight been used with the nonstop to SAN? Well, catch ya later!

This is fantastic news! In the past I've flown on JetBlue's JFK-LGB route and then traveled by car to San Diego to see my family. I always met or overheard other passengers who were doing the same thing. This is going to make travelling to San Diego a lot easier--and I'll certainly pick JetBlue over Southwest's service since I can't go nonstop with them.

Wow--I'm thrilled! Also nice that San Diego gets service by another new airline this year.

Go JetBlue! AA's schedule shows one daily 762 on JFK-SAN; Delta doesn't offer nonstop service. Continental has 2 738's and a 73G from EWR. That does seem underserved from a market as big as NYC area, as Neeleman says; and in any event JetBlue would stimulate demand with lower fares anyway.

Do we know which terminal and gates will be used for the new service?

This will hurt the AA non-stop to New York.

Ah very interesting news indeed.........opening up a new station for one flight woul be a bit expensive I would think, or will they have someone else handle their services from SAN?........I would guess America West could do it, they already operate de A320 series.

What other possible routes would seem likely for Jet Blue to open from SAN?

Great news for SAN! I think AA is getting its just reward on this route, which they have dominated with high fares and, just recently, low capacity. I wonder if AA will make SAN yet another battleground against jetBlue.

I'm not exactly sure where B6 can park at SAN, at least in the morning or evening hours. My guess is they'll contract with Frontier or America West to handle their ops in Terminal 2.

I am glad that Jetblue is giving SAN a chance to have low fares to the Big Apple.

The major carriers probably stuck it to the people of the greater SAN area for flights to the JFK. I realize they are people on here that love the major carriers. Southwest is major carrier but they are low fare majority of the time.
The major carriers, we all have to admit try to squeeze as much as they can out of the flying public. If you deny this then I am not sure what planet you are on living on.

Jetblue has given the flying public an option and I hope that SAN takes advantage of this.

So, how soon will it be before AA anounces upgraded JFK-SAN service? I give them 48 hours.

Contracting is no biggie.

DL handles B6 here in ONT (among the other 4 airlines they do....)

Excellent estimate. And how long until AA loads reduced fares for JFK-SAN? Maybe Another 48 Hours???

Current fares on SAN-NYC seem deadlocked at $350 (AA-JFK) to $400 (CO-EWR)... meanwhile, LGB and LAX are $200-240. It's about time we get some friggin good fares! I'm driving all the way to LAX next Thursday to goto NYC, hopefully this will be my last time!

Thanks for this post FlyCMH! This is refreshing news, and really tells the story on what will happen if the "big 6" don't get as much of a government bail out as they demand. Good on JetBlue Airways, we'll wish they flew everywhere!

Boeingfan, care to qualify this statement? Southwest is the 6th largest airline in the US and they will be just fine without any additional government subsidies.
Keepin' it real.

I don't think he realizes that Southwest has passed USAirways for the #6 spot.

American has already matched JetBlue's fare... $243 + tax, fare is available starting June 26!

Non-stop service is still a 767, with plenty of connecting flights available also.

Here's the schedule. As is typical with JetBlue's new flights to west coast cities, the first flight to be added is a redeye, while the second is a daytime flight.

JFK-SAN 8:30am - 11:35am (effective 7/14)
JFK-SAN 6:40pm - 9:45pm (effective 6/26)

SAN-JFK 12:30pm - 8:40pm (effective 7/14)
SAN-JFK 10:40pm - 6:50am (next day) (effective 6/26)

Typical of a major carrier.

This is what the major carrier wants.

Push Jetblue out of the market in SAN, then when the low cost carrier is gone, jack the prices up again.

Here is what I want:

Jetblue to keep prices reasonable, profit is not a sin, but sticking it to the flying public is the unethical part.

As kind of a tag to this topic there was a blurb in Crains NY Business about the City issuing construction bonds to build a new two bay hangar for B6 at JFK, Im not sure the exact location since it was a very small "blurb" but IIRC it did mention they would be tearing down an older building where the new hangar will be located.
