Wunala Dreaming To Paint Booth

Wed Mar 19, 2003 3:43 am

From Cactus Wings:

* QANTAS B747-438 VH-OJB [24373] ‘Wunala Dreaming’ ferried LAX-ARA (New Iberia, LA) on 11Mar-2003, for respray into the normal QANTAS colors. B747-438 VH-OJC [24406] ‘Formula One’ positioned back to LAX from ARA later that day, having been resprayed into the normal colors. Adios to these two beautiful liveries.

Why is this being done?.....cost?..........I don't know that much about airline liveries economics.

I have to say that seeing the aircraft at LHR was starting to get a bit boring, the QF livery is nice and distinctive anyway, this hybrid was fab to see when it first arrived but seems to have been around for ages? Anybody know how long it has been in these colours? Does the 747-300 in the other scheme look set to be changed also? It was nice to see but time for a change!

I photographed it taking off from LAX on that flight on 11th March. Was I the last person to ever photograph Wunala, or did someone catch it at New Iberia?

OJB and OJC are now classified as older members of QF's 744 fleet. The older members which I think are regos OJA-OJK are all being converted to a 2 class format and will no longer be operated on flagship routes to LHR and LAX.

These routes will be operated by the newer 744s and the 744ERs. Look for one of these 3 class aircraft to turn up in a new livery soon.
