Wed Mar 19, 2003 11:14 am

Apparently another shocking surprise in the landing gear of a plane. It makes you wonder why they aren't inspected as often as you would think...

Aren't the pilots suppose to, at the least, glance in the wheel well. I would think that someone would have noticed the carcass, but who am I...

They are supposed to check them. However, it sounds to me like this was a panel or compartment that was closed off and not part of the routine maintenance schedule. Of course, I have no idea how a 747 is serviced and if there is such a compartment, but that's the impression I get from the (relatively uninformative) article.

Then again, maybe some pilots (and Mechs!) aren't doing their jobs at ANA? I doubt it, but one never knows...
