well, from what i found out here in prescott today at the airport, because that is where i work, mesa as america west express approached the airport and wanted to change a/c on the route to the dash 8. problem being with prc is the kingman leg, because that serves as the eas subsidized contintuation of phx-prc-igm. kingman does not offer airport services to accomodate the dash 8, due to airport hours manned, fire services offered on the field, approaches, and other commuter related issues, so mesa will not fly the dash 8 up there all because of dispatch issues. now with that, flying the dash 8 on the 86 mile leg, usually only a 25 min flight, isn't feasible. the sup here said they would probably fill more seats than now because of the larger a/c, more seats would be available at a different range of fares, especially to feed into phoenix, but mesa now has to try to dump the eas route they have here. this sucks for a couple of reasons now, the only other commuter anywhere out in this area is great lakes who feeds united and frontier, they have a plane based in phx that flies phoenix to page 3 times a day, one continuing to moab, utah and then on to denver. i don't know if they would pick it up. there is also arizona express that flies a B1900D 3x a day from phx to show low, doubt they could do it. so now, we are left with a minimum two hour drive to phx, or four hours to vegas for commercial flights. my roommate just booked a prc-sfo trip in two weeks on hp, and the commuter add-on was only $40 more, quite competitive when you think of time, gas, and parking when having to drive from northern az to phoenix.
