Sabre Airlines At LGW

Tue Nov 23, 1999 11:01 pm

I saw a Sabre Airlines 727 in a white and red scheme at LGW the other day and was wondering what airline that was and how large they are - that was the only 727 I remember seeing at Gatwick in a while. I think I also saw in the distance what seemed to be a sabre 737-800 (I could be wrong, and it could have very well been a 737-400 as well). Do any other airlines currently operate the 727 into gatwick?

Thanks in advance for any info.
I've flown on 9V-SPK.

Sabre Airways

Sabre Airways are a Gatwick based charter airline (Yes - they do fly to Tel Aviv!) Their current fleet consists of 2 B737-800s (Y189) and 2 B727-200s (Y187) They have 2 more B737-800s on order for late 1999/early 2000 but I think these are more for expansion than to replace the 727s, however, only one of them (G-BNNI) has Stage 3 Huskits.

They base 1 737-800 and 1 727-200 at Gatwick, 1 727-200 at Standsted and the other 737-800 at Manchester.

They tend to travel to the quieter destinations such as Kefallinia, Luxor, Preveza, Tel Aviv, Banjul etc and fly mainly for smaller, independent tour operators as the big companies use their own airlines

Hope that helped!

Here is a another topic that was mentioned in the Nov/Dec issue of Airliners. Towards the front of the issue there is a picture of the 727 and a caption saying (I think) as being the only 727 registered in the UK? They must have gotten rid of the other 727. It did say that it would be around for a while because of the stage three upgrade and also I think its recently completed heavy maintence.

Hope this helps

I read the article wrong it did say in fact that they still have two 727's. With both of them being the only 727's registered in the UK.
