3-4-2 EgyptAir

Fri Mar 21, 2003 6:36 pm

Check out
Look at the Y Class congiguration of 3-4-2. What does it feel like to travel in this? Off-balance or awkward or good? I'm sure its good for different group sizes...

Swiss (and earlier Swissair) MD11 also have a 3/4/2 configuration in Y class.

I don't know if there is really an off-balance since it also depends on cargo load and other factors as well.

Guess we are talking about Egypt Air's Boeing 777-200, isn't it?

Hi ! It does feel a bit strange at first when you enter the cabin but when you sit down you don't notice it as much. It worked out well for me; sat on the two seat side with nobody next to me between BKK and MNL. MNL-NRT the flight was almost full so had a person next me then.

Take Care

I think 3-4-2 is the best answer to a "2-5-2 or 3-3-3" question. As well as to "2-4-2 or 2-5-2/3-3-3" one. If three people (a family, ...) want sit together near the window, they can't do so in 2-4-2 or 2-5-2 but it is apparently not necessary to have 3 seats near windows on both sides. As for "off-balance feeling" - no more (actually, even less) than in DC9/MD80 or F100 or Il18...

Yes that's egyptair's 777. No flight entertainment though if any body noticed. But I like the configuration. It would suit different types of couple like the "just married" couple can get the two seats,"just married with their first child" can use the three seats and a family of four would use the four seat in the middle Big grin

Best configuration ever.
You can please couples and families this way.

Why some carriers are opting for the 2-5-2 version?
Do they listen to their customer?

But wasn't the 3-3-3 offered because it was the best because on a 60% filled plane, you could have 6 people in each row who would not have to sit next to someone else:

3-3-3 - 6 people

2-5-2 - only 5 people

3-4-2 - still only 5 people

Oh well, I agree, the 3-4-2 would suit the most people, however to me, it seems off-balanced in terms of just looking around the cabin...How come no PTVs?

Most early 747-100s/200s had 3-4-2 seating, until the airlines started packing more seats in. I think Aer Lingus was the first to introduce 3-4-3 on a 747.

I agree that 3-4-2 is the best layout for 9 abreast seating.

I totally loathe 3-3-3 seating on the few occassions when I was on economy class in a B777 of SQ. Even though the flight was not very long, I still didnt like the idea of having 2 ppl next to you (assuming you are on window seat) when that you need to get past 2 ppl should u want to leave ur seat.

2-5-2 is acceptable as then I can go on the 2 side, ppl in the middle may not be that pleased but overall it is fine.

2-4-2 on Airbus widebodies are perfect 9 abreast layouts. While I wouldn't mind a 3-4-2 on a B777.

I sure love the 763 2-3-2

PS: The A310 has 4 down the middle, I consider it a big fat A320.
