Military Aircraft In Singapore?

Sat Mar 22, 2003 1:33 pm

Take a look at the SIN airport picture below. Does SIN have military aircraft or do US military aircraft use the SIN airport? Look on the left side of the picture there are some military looking aircraft there and look like B-1 bombers.

Those are USA's B-1s, KC-135, and P-3 (subhunter).

When Subic Bay Naval Base and Clark AFB in the Philipines closed Singapore offered to host some units, the Navy has a substantial presence in Singapore.

Singapore has quite a substantial Air Force. They have their own KC-135's, which may or may not be one of those pictured. They also have training agreements with the USAF, US Army and the French AF, among others.

Is this Singapore's only military base?

I have been to SIN about 17 times in my life and all this time I didn't even know military aircraft even fly into SIN. I wish I saw a B-1B landing or departing from SIN that would have been something to see.

Can anybody say where the military aircraft usually are parked in the SIN airport overview below.

2912n has a point. Although I thought all of Singapores KC-135s looked like this:

I can't tell if the KC-135 in the original posting pic has these newer engines. Wasn't the Singapore fleet retro-fitted with the CFM engines in the 1990's?

Where is Ryanair!!! when we most need him? He works in one of our military bases in Singapore and will be best equipt to answer all your queries.

The old airport in Paya Lebar (which Changi replaced) has been converted to a military airport. There is also another military base at the extreme western end of the island, where US planes land.

If I'm not wrong, there is always a squadron of US air force planes in Singapore, but they're always "in transit". As soon as one squadron leaves, another will land. So unofficially, the US military does not have a permanent presence in Singapore, but in reality, they do.

I think the Republic of Singapore Air Force has squadrons of planes outside Singapore too, in the US, Australia, Thailand and France?? The grand plan is if a country up north (I am not mentioning names...) tries to attack, it won't do them good since

1) There's always a squadron of US fighters here.
2) We'll have our planes that will come into the Malaysia/Singapore region from the North, South East and West.

Not as if we will ever go to war but yeah......

docpepz...you mean thailand, don't you?  Smile cut the crap man...

Singapore has for so long had such a siege mentality... they even have got an Israeli general as an advisor. Its well known that Malaysia will not even dare attempt a fight...not because of singapore's prowess, but because of your association with US and Israel. In the event of a war... singapore will be able to go around 600 km into malaysian territory... but in the long run, we will prevail. cos we have the 'balls'!!!

Anyways...lets hope it does not go that way  Big grin

No, MASkargo,

I mean Greenland. My friend in the army said that one of the scenarios given to him was "Greenland, a country to the north of Singapore, has attacked..."

Israel is sometimes referred to as "Country X".

Anyway I don't know why military aircraft land in SIN sometimes, and not in the other air bases. Cos sometimes when I take a walk to the runway I do see military aircraft land. I wish Ryanair!!! would tell us why. Where are you??

Oh and I'm surprised the Republic of Singapore Armed Forces has not charged Ryanair!!! with treason for his undying loyalty to MAS. hahaahahahahahah.

No, MASkargo. We will never ever go to war cos we will have so much to lose. Our respective armies are there just for our respective National Day parades!

Also if I'm not wrong, Israeli aircraft cannot overfly Malaysian airspace. So how did the Israeli President visit Singapore in the early nineties? He must have taken a non-Israeli plane.
