C-130 In Production?

Sun Mar 23, 2003 6:30 am

This may be a stupid question, but I was wondering if the C-130's are still in production as of this day? I read somewhere that the US is getting 25 a year, but do they mean new ones or restored?

Thanks Much,

I might be wrong, but i think there is an 'H' series in production, which has glass cockpit and updated avionics.
cockpit? it's that little room in the front of the plane where the pilots seat.. but that's not important now

Actually, the Air Force just ordered 60 units of the new "J" model. These can be easily recognized at rest by the six bladed props.
I'm not a real aeronautical engineer, I just play one on Airliners.net.

What Danielbk described was the J model, which is very much in production and will remain so for quite a few more years. The H was the previous one, entering service for the first time sometime in the late 60's if I'm not mistaken. The C-130 has been in production for about 50 years now (maybe not continously).

P.S. Military Aviation forum, please.

LY, as there are many civilian C-130s this is not a purely military topic and thus has every right to be here.
