Sat Mar 29, 2003 4:41 pm

Was looking through the database and came across this (a' la Air France) one:

If you think that is bad you should check out VH-OJK, the red tail is fading badly-I have some pictures taken a couple of weeks ago but they are unlikely to be accepted here.

Jarek,

Dear god in heaven! I take back my entire post, compared to that - Qantas has all it's planes dripping with fresh paint.

Well, here are more pictures of aircrafts praying for a new paint job; Aerolineas Internacionales is the worst airline in Mexico and their planes are like this 1 or 2 months after they were repainted.

At least Delta took care of that 737-300:

I am just wandering. To me looks like the paint (on AF 737-500) goes off because it's not well painted or very old. Doesn't look like mechanical damage.
Am I right?

Air France is notorious for letting that happen! They should really take a look at their aircraft!

I think when you put any kind of white paint on an airplane it tends to show dirt more and probably doesnt last as long either...look at white cars...they are in car washes everywhere

Sometimes it has to do with faulty/cheap materials. Like here:

This has been in the fleet for about two months and look at the state of it!

Just goes to show... You're asking for trouble from A.net spotters/photogs if you choose a mostly-white livery!

I've always seen Delta as the dirtiest visitor here at KCLE. Continental seems to do a good job of keeping their planes clean. Southwest would be the second worst; and I've seen a few less-than-shiny AA planes.

I'll re-mention the AA planes I've seen (possibly TWA converts?) that look like they've just been attacked with an orbital sander. They have swirl marks all over. They're shiny...but it looks like shit.

You're right... They are dirty.

I always thought QF was prided on having clean, shining planes.

What happened?

Perhaps because Air France aren't re-painting their aircraft and changing logos every six months they have managed to remain profitable over the last 18 months..... and the onboard service is quite good too...

For dirty aircraft, look no further than the KLMuk F100's and the Ryanair 732's... The F100's are notorious for exhaust problems, and Ryanair dont care, just like Air France....

Actually, that Air France 737-200 looks like it dumped lav-juice out onto the fuselage.

It's a common occurence if the aircraft isn't serviced properly, which is frequently the case with contract service. I think the Lav guy was lazy and didn't seal either the dump valve or the fill valve properly. Either way, it would drain out slowly, leaving streaks just like that.

Vanguard had this happen frequently. It just didn't show up on aircraft very well because of the old 737 paint scheme. The only time you ever saw it was when the MD-80's front lav was serviced improperly, and boy did I hate cleaning that sh*t up (no pun intended).

If you look at the Airliners.net pictures AF and F9 737-200's and the KLM F100 shown here, the dirt is caused by the repeated blasts of jet engine exhaust when the thrust reversers are activated. Good thing I don't see that on 737-300's and new models that use the CFM56 engines.  Smile

My god, this Air France 733 (above F-GJNZ pic by Jarek) almost seems to have holes in its fuselage!! Big thumbs up

Here's my favourite example of a horrific paint-job:

I see absolutely nothing wrong with that Qantas 747. It looks normal to me with respect to fuselage grime. That plane is cleaner than most cars on the road and just as clean as any other airliner. Airplane engines produce soot when they operate. And the diesel vehicles that service them produce soot. It is only normal that airplanes have some soot on them if they are used. And if it is a white fuselage, that soot will be visible if one looks closely. Soot can become visible within days of a cleaning. Why should that be a topic for a thread?

About reply 3: Tha AF 735 really flies around like that.... It was at FRA recently and it lined up on RWY 18 right in front of the spectators-area there.

Really looked like an old bird, missing some of it's feathers

Air France sent that 735 to Warsaw to upstage LOT Polish Airlines after the Polish Flag Carrier presented THIS to challenge Air France's "World smudge title"...
