Miami Flights Question?

Mon Mar 31, 2003 12:07 pm

What Airlines flew the routes to Nassau and Freeport in the 80's and early 90's. Before AA. Also before AA made a hub in MIA over night i heard they had 18 flights a day. where did they go. And i Heard Delta had many more flights from MIA what were they?

Well, MIA-NAS was dominated by Eastern and Bahamasair in the 80's. DL used to fly once daily from Ft. Lauderdale, but not from Miami. I recall Eastern also served Freeport, but the service I rememeber was a Philadelpia-Baltimore-Nassau-Freeport turn.

Pan Am flew Miami to Freeport and Nassau (Freeport was operated by PA Express).

with Pan Am, MIA to Freeport, Nassau was on mainline. We flew additional frequencies to Freeport with Express in the last year or two.

Some smaller carriers like Airways International, Gulfstream and others also flew MIA to the Bahamas like Bahamas Air, and Eastern did in fact fly it as well... (Remember the L1011 that lost 3 engines due to improperly installed oil seals.

FLL to FPO and NAS was Bahamasair, Delta and a host of others like Airways International, Gulfstream, and others.
