Horizon Air To Announce A New Destination

Tue Apr 01, 2003 4:28 pm

Horizon Air is expected to announce a new non-stop destination from Seattle this Friday 4.4.03, anybody know what destination could be next on the Horizon Air map.

There was a news report here on the local news on how Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air are soaring into profit while other airlines are having money troubles and cutting routes while Alaska/Horizon is expanding. Horizon Air is expanding on the west coast routes and Alaska Airlines is expanding to the east coast.

The CEO of Horizon Air was interviewed and said Horizon Air did a good job on working on west coast regional routes rather than expanding to the east like Alaska Airlines. They also interviewed a pretty fine looking flight crew member.

I think Alaska Airlines and especially Horizon Air always have the best looking flight crew. Some girls could be pretty young looking!  Smile

Roger that.

Though on my last Horizon flight there was both sides of the spectrum; one looked like she was 75, the other about 25.

Hmm, that must be an April fools joke. We're far from soaring into profitability. Might be set better off than some right now but we're in the same funk as everyone else.

As for a new destination? Not heard anything.

Cheers!

My bet is on SBA. When the CRJ700 were first announced several years ago, SBA was at the top of the list of cities that could see service with the new fleet type.

You know searpqx I thought the same thing. I am thinking SBA or Monterey ( I think I spelt that wrong). I think there is a very good market for Santa Barbara or Montrerey from Seattle.

Another good city could be SLC! Although I don't see that happening.

I think Colorado Springs is a possibility. I would like to see Salem, OR but that is highly unlikely. Santa Barbara & Salt Lake City seem to make sense as well.

How do they like their CRJ700's?
Is it meeting their expectations?

COS sounds great to me. Though I am surprised at the SEA-California market to (lets say) some of the more secondary cities like, Fresno. SEA-Fresno is one of those routes I thougth I would never seen flown non-stop.

Im in Eugene, OR. I would like to see salem added, but thats not going to happen. A while back it might of when they contracted Harbor Air for some flight numbers. From what I know QX is enjoying their new CR7s, Ive heard complaints from crew and positive things as well. They also made it appearant that the CR7s have had some minor engine problems. I would think my best bet is etheir SLC or SBA or Laughlin (however you spell it) or Reno

Actually, Dash8tech, it was featured on Q13 News At Ten on Monday night. I also don't quite have the same extremely positive outlook as those presenting the story did, but you guys are doing much better than most.

I flown on Horizon Air's CRJ-700's a few times and I am really impressed with them. Also I could tell the Horizon air crews are liking the aircraft very much. I really could see Horizon Air ordering more of these or maybe even ordering the CRJ-900!

I agree with you guys Horizon Air like other airlines are doing bad compared to the good times but Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines are doing way better than most airlines. Alaska Airlines with Horizon Air dominates the west coast and owns it! With all the expansion both airlines are seeing it shows! Look how they have been expanding the most year or two. Horizon Air is sticking to north-south routes and Alaska Airlines is expanding to very good markets on the east coast.

USAIRWAYSA321 - Did you see that flight attendant they interviewed working in the Q400!  Smile You gotta love Horizon Air!

Yeah, she was pretty nice, it was the highlight of the segment for me. I can't stand Q13, but they advertised airline updates all evening leading up to the news, so i tuned in. It was worth it, especially since they were the only local station to mention US Airways emerging that I noticed.

You know LV that isn't a bad destination for Horizon Air. I think they would serve IFP with Q400's if they were to fly there.

It's on the Alaska and Horizon websites, too.

I would like to see Horizon start CRJ service between Seattle and Santa Rosa, CA. This would definitely be a leisure-market, but given Santa Rosa's proximity to the Sonoma, Russian River, Alexander Valley/Dry Creek and Napa Valley wineries, I see definite potential for this route. Not only would the flights benefit Alaska's Wine Country vacation packages, but I suspect there would be a comparable amount of O&D traffic to that found in the Santa Barbara area. Santa Rosa is not a small town, and I certainly know a few people in the region who are fed-up with the bumper-to-bumper traffic they encounter in getting to SFO or OAK.

That's good that they are starting a new destination! Does it mean that it will pull out of someplace in the near future?

Continental - I don't see Horizon Air pulling out of any destination it currently flies to. It did fly to Denver with CRJ-700s but it's parent airline Alaska Airlines filled in the route with larger MD-80 aircraft. Also Horizon Air will stop flying some of it's daily Seattle-Boise routes and Alaska Airlines will fly bigger aircraft also in it's place. I am sure with those two route changes it freed up some CRJ-700s and with that Horizon Air was able to fly the new route from the Northwest to SBA and expand more flights on other routes.

It just shows how Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air work with each other.

The new CRJ-700's and Q400's are for route expansion and to replace it's older fokker aircraft which now are all gone.
