Farewell - LH526 As We Know It

Wed Apr 02, 2003 3:37 am

Hi

By April 1st Lufthansa changed it's routing on LH526. What was once flown daily FRA-EZE-SCL is now split up in a 3 times weekly FRA-GRU-SCL and a 4 tmes weekly FRA-GRU-EZE. .. they say it's because of capacity reasons. The type of plane remains B744, beside the other flight FRA-GRU with A340.

I took that flight many times and it definitelly is "my flight" (Yeah, dumb sentimental reasons), hence my username. It's sad to see that flight being changed, on one side FRA-EZE is one of the longest nonstop routes ever, and definitelly was Lufthansas longest. On the other side it's just great to not be waken up only 1 hour prior to approach into GRU, but to have some more time enjoying the flight and the scenery that passes by 41000 ft underneath

LH526 ... farewell!

Mario I regret it as much as you do.

LH526 was an ideal flight for me departing from Stockholm: it offered me a quick connection at Frankfurt and Lufthansa's traditional punctuality and good service.

I have been willing to pay a little more in order to fly with Lufthansa and avoid Iberia. And I did it several times. But now, with that stop, LH is not an option anymore.

Best regards
Erico

Erico

well, in my eyes Lufthansa still is the best option to fly to Santiago de Chile, the only drawback is that the frequency was reduced from a flight daily to 3 flights a week, the total flight time and the departure time hasn't changed! Just the stopver changed from Buenos Aires to Sao Paulo .. that's all.

When Buenos Aires is your final destination, well, that's a difference, what was flown non stop, no goes via Sao Paulo.

I think this is only a temporary installation, once economies in South America (and Germany) get a little healthier, and LH gets more long-haul aircraft, EZE should go back non-stop quickly.

I read somewhere in Argentina that the flight would return to operate as usual in October (nonstop to EZE and then continuing to SCL).

I took the LH526 and it was very good, the fact that is nonstop made it very confortable for such a long trip.

Mario,

Indeed we had this change by last monday.. But, we don't have two LH flights down here (as I understood on your original post).. The only flight we have is with the 747-400.

A friend who works at LH at GRU said that most probably we will get the A340-600 when the winter (our summer) time table comes in effect...

South America, specially Brazil, is a nice market for many European airlines, and with Varig and TAM dropping flights some flights transiting through GRU are very popular for GRU-SCL and GRU-EZE local traffic, specially due early morning dep. time.. I don't think Varig or TAM have flights to EZE before 9 in the morning...

Do you know if LH has traffic rights on the GRU-EZE(SCL)-GRU segment?

Gruss

Renato

Btw, the first 747-400 here was D-ABVX...

No need to be sentimental: Five-Two-Six will be back: Just checked on Galileo for a randomly picked date, 20DEC03:
1 FRA EZE 20/2225#0810 LH 526 F9 A9 C9 D9 Z9 Y0 B0 MC HC#744*C

And economy is already booked out!

There you go, Mario!  Big thumbs up

That is a good notice to me!!!!That flight was spectacular, specially for Asian connection via FRA.With a stop at GRU it is not a good option to fly even more longest destinations as BKK,SIN,NRT,HKG etc, from EZE.
Only non-stop flights to EUROPE are:AF 777- IB 747 -AR 747/A340 -SW 767 -AZ MD11.
Saludos desde EZE.

Many staralliance members from Argentina, prefer to fly to Asia via FRA.LH connections are really good, specially with other Star partners,LH and TG or SQ with just 1 stop of 4 hs.Connections via USA are not good enough, and Malaysian make 2 stop to KUL and AR via AKL or SYD is more or less the same.
