Bmi New Routes/codeshare

Wed Apr 02, 2003 7:45 am

October will see a BD/AC codeshare offering a Glasgow - Toronto service. Also, many more US destinations via the BD/UA agreement too.

Thanks,

Aaron

Is this a nonstop route operated by BD... or a continuation of the seasonal AC 767 service on YYZ-GLA-YYZ? And are the flights to the United States operated by United Airlines?

Hope this means the service is not just seasonal from GLA but year round and not just going to funnel the service through man or LHR etc. Mabe see bmi start up services from GLA to the USA that would be good.

BMI is reported to discuss codesharing with LOT Polish (LO) on its WAW-LHR, WAW-MAN and Krakow-LGW routes. LO recently dropped its codeshare agreement with BA as it is planning to enter the Star Alliance in fall this year. Supposedly, LOT is interested in putting its flight numbers on several domestic BMI routes.

How many times does it need to be said? There will be 2 long-haul hubs for bmi: LHR & MAN. The extra UA codeshares will be applicable for our flights (surprised that they're not bothering with MAN-YYZ AC codeshare and extending that service through the winter, though I thought they had that in the bag?). The next few years will see LHR get most of the A330s (initially operating away from the US) and MAN one or two more at most: they only have plans for around 5 or 6 long-haul flights from here (despite having applied for 13).

David... how can a three fleet A330 airline have two long haul hubs?

BMI are hardly in a fit state financially at the moment to carry the start up costs of any new long haul routes. Admittedly, if by some miracle LHR-USA suddenly opened up further carriers, it would be difficult for BMI to stay out of that market, but with the current economic conditions I don't see the UK or US governments doing anything that will increase competition or potentially have an adverse impact on the existing LHR-USA incumbants. With there already being internal debate about whether the MAN-IAD service will indeed resume in June as previously suggested, I see nothing but codeshare on the near-term horizon as far as BMI long haul is concerned.

So how is the YYZ-GLA code share going to work AC even though bankrupt continuing through out the winter with a bmi code? Or is bmi going to do a connection at LHR onto a AC flight?
