BA Flights To HKG Now Via Bangkok

Wed Apr 02, 2003 9:39 pm

British Airways is adjusting its flight schedule to Hong Kong following a change in World Health Organisation (WHO) travel advice for travel to the area. Until further notice, BA will operate its Hong Kong services using Bangkok as a temporary transit.

The information issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) today, Wednesday 2nd April, advises visitors to Hong Kong to consider post-poning non-essential travel to the province in light of the current outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

Our internal breifing states "Amadeus/Orbit will be updated shortly with the revised schedule". Should be released by close of play today in London.

Can BA pick up passengers in BKK for HKG?

Also, are they still running two daily?, ot will it be scaled back to one?

As far as I know both BA25 and BA27 will operate daily. As for picking up local traffic between BKK and HKG, I dont think so.

I am not sure what difference this makes in regards to the WHO alert? How does stopping in BKK and continuing on to Hong Kong offer any kind of safety?

Please let me know

Thanks

The main reason for the stopover (the same reason BA is operating Gulf flights via Larnaca) is that crew no-longer overnight in Hong Kong. Crew will slip in BKK and operate a shuttle BKK-HKG-BKK return. It is primarily for the safety of BA staff.
