Actually, it's been renamed Liberty International Airport as of about three hours ago (11pm ET, 3 Apr 03).

Is anyone using LIA as an airport code?

GWI!

A big sign plastered over Saddam's name that says "GEORGE DUBYA!" and we could replace all the photos of Saddam with Dubya's likeness.

I think it's brilliant.

Right, it is SDA for Saddam International.
If you check BGW it shows Baghdad Al Muthana, is it another Airport in Baghdad it self? BGW, is it the City code for Baghdad like NYC?

BGW is the city identifier for Baghdad as well as for Al Muthana.

To add some more confusion:

http://www.mapping.com/airdir/airporthtml.html

which is usually the very best resource for a/p codes, lists "Saddam International" as SAD - fitting as it would be, I had so far only heard of SDA.

Problem is, SDA is Shenadoah/IA, while SAD is Safford/AZ.

Could it be BGW was the code for the main airport until Saddam came to power? After renaming Bagdad Intl, they could have given BGW to Al-Muthana (and continued using it as area code)?

Indeed very confusing.
