The flight number alone tells me it must be a charter.

A charter flight at 2:55am seems awfully strange.... but, never know. Thanks!

I've seen photos of Southwest 737s at EWR before (BDLGUY took one of them, I think). There were no Dallas teams in the New York metro area yesterday, so I have no clue as to why.

Southwest has been doing some of the domestic shuffling of troops, picking them up around the country than sending them to were they do their final training before they leave for the Middle East so thats a possibility

2:00 a.m. would be about normal. Unlike most of the other airlines, Southwest has very few aircraft available for daytime charter operations. Consequently most of their charters operate at night.
