'Sabena' Becomes A Minor Planet

Sat Apr 05, 2003 9:53 am

Hi,

One of many many minor planets, often referred to as 'planetoids' has been given the name 'Sabena'. As you know, Sabena was the Belgian national flag carrier until november 2001, when Sabena was declared bankrupt.

The minor planet was discovered on september 17th 1993 in La Silla by famous Belgian minor planets expert Eric W. Elst.

So, as from now on, Sabena really is 'in heaven'.

Sabena 690:

Thanks for adding those pics.

AirDD: This will always remain a mystery. Actually, all I ever do is surf the whole web looking for items of interest...not Big grin

Some might even argue Sabena was on a different planet all along.

Still, I can only echo Sabena 690's comment: I wish time could be turned back . . .

Apuneger, on your (nicely built) personal website I noticed your intrest/passion for astronomy.

Are you aware of any other heavenly bodies that carry the name of an airline, airport or airplane?
Or is Sabena the first and only (defunct) airline to be given that honour?
