Bearskin Airlines

Mon Apr 07, 2003 2:59 pm

Do any of our Canadian friends up north know anything about this carrier? Apparently it's a small commuter operation in Ontario....

Would like info on it if you have any...

They serve many smaller cities in Ontario...operate 7 Metros, 6 Beechcraft 99s, a couple King Airs, 4 Pilatus PC-12s, plus some small Cessnas and Pipers.
Hope this helps.

I had an interesting chat with Bearskin's regional manager for Southwestern Ontario a few weeks ago and discussed the carrier's longterm goals. Without disclosing specifics of their plans, I think it can be safely said that Bearskin has ambitious plans to create their own niche market. The bread and butter flying will always be the tundra trips to remote outposts, but a strong market does exist for niche flying such as their highly successful YKZ-YOW route. The airline is also considering the possibility of graduating to a higher equipment guage in the near to mid-term future.

I'm sure over the coming months Bearskin will start to re-position itself in the Ontario/Manitoba Market. With the booming success of the Southern/Northern Ontario routes, the pending transfer of all Sioux Lookout and North routes to Wasaya Airways, I'm sure aircraft redeployment will be necessary (hopefully not the B99's mind you). I would say over the coming months there will be many changes that will transform the once Bush Operation into a flourishing regional carrier.

I had also heard that they would eventually like to start a YKZ-YUL route when they have enough aircraft.

With the new addition of YSB-YKZ, it's safe to say other Y??-YKZ routes will materialize.
