What Is A Good LAX Hotel For Plane Spotting?

Tue Apr 08, 2003 6:26 am

Will be staying at an LAX hotel this weekend, what are some of the hotels that provide the best view for watching planes?

Thanks,
Tony

with the way things are going nowadays, my best suggestion would be the Best Western in West Covina.

I'd recommend the LAX Hilton. The executive lounge on the top floor offers "control tower" views of the south complex. Also, do a search on this topic...it's been discussed many times.

The LAX Hilon is very nice! Reasonable rates, too.I had a big corner room for only $88 a night. Only bad side is paying to park and the underground garage is easy to forget where ya parked.

Yeah, the LAX hilton is best. That or the LAX Airport Marriott. That's a super nice one too. But the LAX Hilton has some views of the airport from there. Also, the LAX Crown Plaza has great views of 25L/R and of the United commuter ramp. See?

The LAX Crowne Plaza can be had for as little as $32/night by using Priceline.com. See the biddingfortravel.com website for more info.

I stayed in the Hilton and Westin. Both of them are very nice but as hotel I would prefer the Westin, it is better. Spotting isn't that cool because of the dark windows but watching planes, both are nice.

Better go to In'n'Out Burgers, it's much better  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I have stayed at the LAX Marriott and the Radisson on the approach to 24L/R. Not bad rooms either one. The Radisson you can get really good views of the International arrivals usually.

The Thai hotel is now the Courtyard Marriott- between the Radisson and Crowne Plaza.

As for the best view, the top floor of the Furama (tower building) can't be beat- and you're not stuck on Century Boulevard. At Furama you can at least walk outside at night as it's in a residential area and there are plenty of restaurants.

I'm sure that the Hilton or the Marriott have much better views (and rooms Big grin ), but I've stayed at the Hampton Inn (runways 25) and the Sheraton Four Points (runways 24), and both have very good views of the final approach. You can't really see them touching down, but it's all good until just before that. Great arrivals during the morning by the way, with lots of 747s. Qantas, Cathay, Japan, ANA, Air New Zealand...

Stayed at the Westin in a room facing the south runways. Awesome. The planes were about 100ft AGL as they were on short final as I looked out the window. I could watch the entire touchdown.

I stayed at the Marriott and all i saw from my room were 2 united tails parked at the airport. But i guess you could maybe ask for a more spotting friendly room.

On the other hand the Marriott is really nice and staff are great.

Cheers
