YWG-DEN

Fri Nov 26, 1999 12:44 pm

Does anyone know if YWG is going to get more flights to Denver on Aircanada, United, or Frontier. What type of aircraft should the airlines use? Please let me know. Thanks for your time.

Probably will expand this route and take it over from airBC. AC would probably use a a319/a320 on this route. Maybe twice daily.

Denver needs more flights to Canada. Maybe CP could fly a 737 to DEN. Frontier should start service to Canada. I think they are based in DEN. UA should fly a 737-400 into YWG. That could make about 5 flights to DEN. What does everyone think of this great idea?
Please respond.

I heard that Frontier Airlines is going to fly to Canada. I know that they are based in Denver. Does anybody know where they are going to fly? I don't know if this is true. If they fly their 737-300 to Canada. Where will they fly. I hope YWG-DEN,YVR-DEN,YYC-DEN,YEG-DEN,YUL-DEN,YYZ-DEN. that will be alot of comitition.

Probably YYZ-DEN, seeing how as YVR, YYC, YEG all have real good connections to Denver with AirBC. I don't think YWG is first on the list for any airline new routes. Would love to see them here though.

I can't see YYZ being first on the list. I think it would be YYC then YYZ. Only because YYC is closer to DEN than YYZ. YWG would come at the near the top of the list.

Both YEG and YWG is underserved due to the turf war in Calgary and Toronto between AC and CP, but I don't expect to see Frontier flying to either city. The reason AC has been successful doing so is because of connections. Frontier isn't able to offer the same connections as UA, and it wouldn't have the appeal for businessmen and frequent fliers as would service from AC.

I think Frontier will be very successful in YWG. Yes the war between airlines is west of here but Frontier will be able to start a DENVER flight. Its a good thing that YWG has AC to DENVER. Lets talk about more flights into DEN. I can see United flying a direct flight to DEN because of its YVR,and YYC links.

I don't think it is sensible for Frontier to start up service to Winnipeg. Calgary could work, but most low-fare carriers are reluctant to go transborder. Afterall, if your ticket can be as low as $50 each way, taxes to cross the border each way are almost $40, a little ridiculous.

As stated in previous posts, Frontier cannot provide as good connections as the Star Alliance can. Although Frontier is one of the best, and most admired of low fare airlines, I don't think Winnipeg would be on their list for future service. Large cities like Dallas and Houston would amount to much more potential.

I still think that they could fly into Canada. That would give Westjet a bit of Compition in YYC. I can see Westjet flying to DEN from YYC,YWG,YVR.

YWG777, I don't think that having that kind of traffic between YWG and DEN is realistic. Most people flying into the states from Winnipeg take Northwest anyway, because of their lower fares and higher frequencies through MSP. I can see the Star Alliance, most likely Air Canada, doing 2 319s down there on weekdays, but thats about it. United won't come to YWG and I doubt frontier will either.

C-GAGN,
Do you know when AC will do this? I can see 5 flights going to DEN. There was a article in the Free Press a few months ago. It said that by the year 2000 threr will be 5 flights to DEN. The same to ORD and 1 more to MSP.

Yes, I can see 2 AC flights. But UA coming isn't realistic. They are AC's partner, and they develop their routes to complement each other. Note that AC doesn't duplicate UA's YYC-DEN flights, among others. UA won't start duplicating AC's. Only on the highest traffic routes do both airlines fly. Also, realistically we're not talking about a whole lot more airlines coming in. Most new routes will be with AC, no question about it. There is some potential room for other airlines, but not for everybody and their dog to come fly out of here.
