Longest Route Including Stopovers

Thu Apr 10, 2003 6:44 am

The Equator is 40,120km long... So, the longest route must be no more than 20,060km (you could reach either two points linked by moving no more than this distance).

Given this, I guess AKL-LAX-LHR (NZ) is the longest pax service route with 19.268km. Then, it would be NRT-LAX-GRU (JL, RG) with 18.715km

Can you guys think in longer routes regardless they have stops... I am interested in knowing which airline has the longest route.

Thanks

Next flight: IAH-DBX-MRU-ANT

JL re-routed its GRU service to NRT-JFK-GRU some time ago.

My guess would be MH: KUL-JNB-CPT-BUE

However, the first flights that came to mind were UTA's CDG-MCT-SIN-CGK-SYD-NOU service with 747's (no MCT stop with the 744's) and Aeroflot's 4 or 5 stopper from SVO to SCL with an IL-62... memories!

UA used to have 2:

UA flight 1 and 2
i don't remember which went which way but one was
JFK-LHR-New Delhi-HKG-LAX-JFK and the other wad the other way... there were easily 2 flight 1's and 2 flight 2's in the air at 1 time
NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

Would QF107 SYD-LAX-JFK be longer than MEL-ORD? Surely it would be. But that would probably be round about 16500kms, probably heaps alot longer.

Of the current flights, I could imagine
9999nm NRT-JFK-GRU
10404nm AKL-LAX-LHR
8988nm KUL-JNB-CPT-EZE

Gone forever:
10488nm CDG-MCT-SIN-CGK-SYD-NOU (UTA, mentioned above)
11340nm LHR-AUH-KUL-PER-CHC-AKL (BA, just before the B744)

This one sure goes to Air NZ. And they were flying an even longer flight: FRA-LAX-AKL!
According to Great Circle Mapper:
From To Distance
2 segment path: 10703 nm
FRA (50°01'N 08°20'E) LAX (33°56'33"N 118°24'29"W) 5040 nm
LAX (33°56'33"N 118°24'29"W) AKL (37°00'S 174°28'E) 5663 nm
2 segment path: 10404 nm
LHR (51°29'N 00°28'W) LAX (33°56'33"N 118°24'29"W) 4741 nm
LAX (33°56'33"N 118°24'29"W) AKL (37°00'S 174°28'E) 5663 nm

So another 300nm on top of the LHR flight. Loved that one. Sorry to see NZ18/19 gone!  Sad

Mine would be either LHR-LAX or HNL-LAX-DEN-ORD.
