Damaged Plane Lands Safely

Fri Apr 11, 2003 2:39 am

According to the BBC news website a Helios 737 (ZU 401) suffered a birdstrike to its rear tail upon take-off, the plane landed safely after taking off from Luton with 180 on board.
I guess it was up in the air a while as well, seeming its destination was Cyprus, and it had to burn off fuel for landing..
Its not the fall that kills u, its the sudden stop at the end..

"and it had to burn off fuel for landing"

Didn't have to, but chose to. Just one indicator that the problem was not particularly serious and the crew were not worried.

If they were seriously concerned it would have been a land ASAP scenario regardless of weight. This also applies to aircraft which have the facility to dump fuel rapidly.
I used to love the smell of Jet-A in the morning...
