Air India Board Approves Airbus Deal

Sun Apr 13, 2003 7:16 pm

The board of directors for Air India has approved the renewal of the lease on 2 Airbus A310-324 aircraft due to expire later this year. The decision was taken during the board meeting on Saturday in Mumbai.

The aircraft in question are VT-EVE Periyar (formerly 9V-STS, msn 501) and VT-EVF Mahanadi (formerly 9V-STU, msn 548). The lease will be renewed for an additional 2 year period from Singapore Airlines.

Air India is the world's largest operator of the Airbus 310 in passenger service with a fleet of 17 aircraft currently in service.

Nice to see the 310's stay longer.

It is a shame, but soon she will be a difficult sight to see, what with SQ pulling the plug early and SU replacing their units soon.

I might have to have a jolly on LH or TP to add a couple more flights before they all become freighters!

When will they resume their service to MAN (hopefully using the A310s)? Or are we going to have to wait for the bilateral to be torn up in favour of "open skies"?

Don't be childish! Trust the merits of the 777 (a very fine plane unfortunately),
and the arm-twisting ability of the US administration. Don't you watch the news?
