773ER World Tour?

Tue Apr 15, 2003 2:35 am

Now that the 2nd aircraft is in testing as well, any of you other Boeingphiles know when the mighty twin is scheduled to begin her world tour? I'd imagine it would be after the Paris show, no?

On a side note, I cant wait to see the orders roll in once she does!  Big grin

The 2nd ship (WD-502) completed her first flight (PAE-BFI) on April 6... so she's somewhere around.

No doubt it's going to visit Singapore/Dubai/Hong Kong.... as those are home to the three carriers Boeing is most keen on selling it to.

No doubt it will visit Tokyo as a sneak preview to their airlines; the primary two of which are already customers.

"They want CX to buy them yet they will not stop in Hong Kong??.........."

Maybe CX is already sufficiently convinced so that there's no need to stop by.  Smile

JMO-777 has posted what appears to be a schedule of test flights rather than a round-the-world promotional sales tour, which typically has the aircraft spending a day at each stop where it can be viewed by the airlines concerned and then they're taken up on a joyride before the aircraft moves on to the next destination.

Most of the destinations listed above wouldn't feature on a sales tour, and several important ones which you'd assume would be included are missing.

An aircraft visting Irkutsk, Petropavlovsk, Keflavik, Easter Island, Iqaluit, Cold Bay, Wake Island and Perth among others is undergoing testing - not a sales tour, which would feature London, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Atlanta, Dallas etc.

Given the success of the World Sales tours of the B757-300 and B767-400 3 years ago, since which time Boeing has secured just 1 new customer (Northwest for the 753) I would think Boeing will save themselves the expense. Airlines will choose to buy an aircraft or not, irrespective of whether it has been paraded at their HQ!

With such poor sales I'm surprised the demo 764 ever left America!!. It never visited Hong Kong thats for sure.

As for the 753, that did come to Hong Kong, I remember it well, pissing down with rain and about 500m viz!!. Could just make out the flying condor stick.

717 also passed by Hong Kong in Airtran colous and Boeing titles.

Well, the 777 is Boeing's hottest-selling widebody... and it isnt suffering from a deficiency of order backlog, such as the 757/767 were at the time of the 753/764ER introduction. Boeing would be foolish not to send it on a world tour, as per its competition.

Why would this bird visit Cold Bay, Alaska out of curiousity? Ryan

Boeing does most of their cold-weather testing in Alaska. They often test both individual systems, and overall airplane integration there.
