Yes, folks it is true about the lay offs at SSV. Main # 1 reason??? SSV was contracted by Conquest to operate CF-RAP
, dailysto the United Kingdom. 5 days from YYZ
and 2 days from YVR
Apparently according to Russ Payson at a company meeting last Tuesday, the reason for the layoffs were low ticket sales to the U.K. suspected cause - SARS and the Iraq war. Conquest has cancelled those flights completely and although they are still selling seats on the Conquest web site, passengers will not be travelling on SSV or CF-RAP
is just sitting there. Personally, I think that Conquest should just use RAP
and go to the U.K. - hoping that the sales will improve. And, they should advertise more...Jetsgo has billboards so does Westjet.
So, until the economy picks up SSV will not be flying North Atlantic. We will remain with the Italy and Dublins only.
Conqest has been notorious for almagamating flights to different destinations and cancelling flights all winter. I hoped that they would stop this practise for the overseas program, but no, they have not.
Russ Payson assured us all that we are still financially very stable, however, he is not willing to risk anything after what happend with Rootsair. I guess you can't blame him. SSV has picked up flying for Ghana Airways, and are utilizing RAV and RAE, ( previously contracted to Khalifa).
I am so sorry for all of the layed off flight attendants and can only say that I have faith that when things pick up, they will once again be back in the air...or you can apply at Jetsgo. And cudos to Jetsgo...they are kicking some butt!
