Delta Or ATL Employees, I Need Help!

Tue Apr 15, 2003 6:54 pm

I already started a similar topic about this issue some days ago but didn't get satisfying answers. Now I try to ask Delta, ATL, MIA or FLL employees...
In 1993 I went on my first USA trip, flying Delta on FRA-MIA, FLL-ATL and ATL-FRA. I only know all aircraft were B763s, at least two of them were ERs. Unfortunately, I didn't take care for registrations in these days and now they are missing in my list,
I also tried to ask at Delta via e-mail (giving them all details including ticket numbers and so on), but I have never received an answer. The BTS website doesn't show information prior to 1995.

Does anyone have an idea how to get information about the three aircraft used on these flights? Aren't there logbooks at airlines or aiports where such data is saved?

Aircraft logbooks are indeed saved, but at a minimum you'll need a specific date and a flight number. Assuming you have those (or can find them out), then it's a matter of finding someone within the airline (and specifically, the maintenance department) that has the time to go back and look for the information.
Writing an airline to ask for this info might not bring results. Oh sure, if the FAA needed the info, they'd task someone to dig it up, and if say, it took someone 1-2 hours to do find it, the airline would take that labor cost ($20? $30?) and eat it. That's if FAA needed the info; if John Q. Passenger writes in asking "what aircraft was I on" just as a "nice-to-know", the airline is probably not going to spend the $$$ to answer the question. I'm not saying that this is (or isn't) the case with DL, just that cost -does- enter into it, and that may explain your lack of an response.

My suggestion would be to see if you can find a Delta employee (here or elsewhere) that can lead you to an employee in their maintenance department, who can then find out, hopefully.
ALL views, opinions expressed are mine ONLY and are NOT representative of those shared by Southwest Airlines Co.

Thanks for the info, OPNLguy!
Certainly I have the exact dates and flight numbers, so I will keep on asking around. I know the chance to find out what I'm looking for is not very good, but I won't give up.

Delta people, I just need your help!

P.S.: Just in case someone has an opportunity to investigate, here are the flights:
DL 117, Frankfurt-Miami, April 2 1993
DL 841, Ft.Lauderdale-Atlanta, April 16 1993
DL 014, Atlanta-Frankfurt, April 16 1993

FRA-MIA used to operate with L1011-500's back in the day....and ATL-FRA as well, mostly L15's...mayyyybe a 763ER.

FLL-ATL...good chance of an L1011 at that time....or a 767-300.

Hope this helps at all.

Hi Steve,

I know for sure all flights were operated by B763s, at least two of them were ERs. I know the second daily ATL-FRA service was operated by a L15 and I was damn disappointed I only had the 763. However, what I still miss are the registrations...

It's going to be very hard to figure this out since it probably isn't in a computer system. In 1993 they probably just typed it up and it's probably stored somewhere next to the files of past employees.

Do you have a timetable from 1993?

A/C 171-182 look like the only ER's in service in April 93.
Good luck narrowing it down from there!

Right, there were only 13 B763ER in service in 04/93. However, 24 B763 non-ERs...

Does anyone know someone working for Delta's maintenance department? Btw, how long do airports keep data of movements?

Base on how airlines and the TSA has been behaving lately, I am surprised that your request was not "suspicious" and you haven't been visited by the government people who investigate such "suspicious" activity! You know that knowing the registration numbers of aircraft in the U.S. is considered suspicious in itself!  Acting devilish
