Today i seen A Kitty Hawk 747-200! It was probably like 4,000Ft. overhead approaching to land on 27R/L. When I first seen it in the air to be honest I thought I went back in time and seen a Continental 747 in the "Meatball" scheme lol.

Well a 747-200 is pretty damn rare at DFW and I saw one land over X-mas break.

Sorry about the false info lets switch that around a bit. Same scheme but American Intl Airways and it was a 747-100.

yeah i thought it would be rare to see a Kitty Hawk 747 these days.

I saw an Air Stan Il-76 at DTW and occassionally the An124 flies there.

A couple years ago I saw an Asiana 767 in Philadelphia. It was parked over at the old international terminal. No idea what it was doing there! Nice to see it though, as we don't get service from any Asian airline here in Philly!

In the mid 90's...maybe 94 or so...I saw an Aer Lingus 747-100 depart MSY's 7000ft. runway 1! I was shocked to see that aircraft here...an awkward sight indeed...but a great one!

About 5 years ago, I was in my yard and heard the unmistakable sound of large radial engines. At first I thought that it might be a DC-3, but it sounded louder. Suddenly, out from behind the trees (I live in a heavily wooded area) came a B-29! After flying over, it circled back and came right over our house. We live about 6 miles from Stewart Airport in Newburgh, NY (SWF) and it was coming in to spend several days, along with a B-24, as part of a flying tour. It is the only flying B-29 in the world, FIFI, and belongs to the Confederate Air Force. Although I did not take this picture, it is close to the view we had as it flew overhead.

We toured it the next day. It's a magnificent bird.

When driving past Hamilton Airport (in little old New Zealand), I was stunned to see a USAF C-32A (757) sitting on the apron.

This rarity to Columbus, Ohio was spotted on April 19 doing a charter run for spring breakers. Probably won't be seeing it anytime soon here.

This North American 767-300 was here a few weeks ago as a military transport, bringing troops back from Panama. It blocked one of our RJ gates parked at C46.

At the Greater Moncton International Airport I have been fortunate to work at the Airport during the Francophone summit. I have seen an Air Gabon 747-200, MEA A310, Government of France A310, Lots of 707's, DC-8's.
After that
Lufthansa A340-300
AA 767-300
BMI A330-200
Air Transat A310
Air Transat A330
Continental 767, 757 (9/11)
Martinair 767(9/11)
Air France 767 (9/11)
British Airways 767 (9/11)
US Airways 767 (9/11)
AC A330 (9/11)
AC A340 Francophone Summit
AC A320 Diverted cause YHZ was fogged out
Canada 3000 752
Canada 3000 A310
Canada 3000 A320
Royal Airlines 727
Royal Airlines 752
Royal Airlines A310
Westjet 732 Inaugrual flight
NWA DC-10
Netherland Air Force DC-10
Government of Canada A310
Canadian 737 in Liberal Titles for the 1998 Election I think
Skyservice A319, A320

These were the planes that I remeber but during the 9/11 crisis there were plenty but the Hilight had to be the Air Gabon 747-200. And who says that the GMIA is not ready to get the heavy jets!!!!

In 1989, I was living 4 hours by car from PDX. Concorde was scheduled to fly in and be around for a few days. So, dad and I made the trek. He did a fly-by, turned around, and landed. WOW!!
Oregon National Guard now has KC-135s stationed at PDX. Those are fun to see, too!

I witnessed the arrival of the Concorde at LAX in October of '74. I was 7 at the time and my father was working for UAL as a mechanic. I remember only vague descriptions yet I have some pretty choice 8mm footage from the terminal of which it came in. I need to view this film again and give details about which terminal it came into and which runway it landed and departed from. I have the reels of film right here in my hand. Now I'm totally motivated to get these converted to DVD or video-tape!!!

In Hagerstown, MD I have seen numerous 727's operated by Eastern, KeyAir, and Royal West, not to mention Air Force One (5500 foot runway.) Also in Cumberland, MD (5000 foot runway) I saw a Republic Airlines DC-9. Finally I saw a Presidential BAe146 in Hot Springs, VA. Hot Springs has a 5500 foot runway that sits on a mountain top in the middle of no where. Nothing around for miles. It takes 45 minutes to get from the airport to the closest highway.

I was really surprised the first time I saw an AN-124 at HNL and wondered why it was there. I later found out that HA used to it to ship an DC-10 engine to PPG. Since then I seen it a couple more times. Then I saw the black and yellow EAL 747 wondering again why it was here. I also caught the GE 747 landing the day it had the fire in the pylon. I didn't know anything was wrong until I got home and saw the news.

At one of my local airports, Erie Colorado (48V), we normally don't get too much big stuff at all. A Baron is enough to get people to come out of the building to watch take off. One day we had a Douglas C-41A (VIP version of the DC-3) come in...was on its way to south Denver and needed to make a fuel stop. It was so huge and amazing compared to anything else there that people (non-aviation lovers) drove to the airport to see what it was. The owner of the FBO even gave them a discount on the gas for choosing that airport. It barely fit on the taxiways aswell...amazing to see.

Where I work, no airliner will ever surprise me. I was surprised however last year, or was it 2001? by the appearance of the N9M at MZJ. First time it's ever been out of California. I also saw a "shark fin" Aero Commander at TUS a few months back as well as 40 or so Aerostar 600s in town for a convention.

I was very surprised just 2 days ago when i saw a QANTAS 747-400 on approach to land at Adelaide Airport. It flew virtually straight over my house. That's a sight we don't see very often in Adelaide. Sure we get other 747's- CX/MH etc. but a QF one is very rare here. Another surprise i got was last December when i was leaving for Sydney, i saw an AN-124 parked at the International Terminal(ADL) and i was in disbelief, since it was the first time i had ever actually seen an Antonov for real!! 3rd surprise was in February when a USAF C5 Galaxy came in and again flew virtually over my house!! :-0

I remember when PA dropped a 747-200 into FLL, coming in from the west, over I-95. Caused 4 accidents when it came in for landing - scared the CRAP out of a bunch of drivers on I-95!  Big thumbs up

CO dropped a 777 in to CLE a few summers ago, with a flight attendant who was having a heart attack. It was CO flight 10, IAH-CDG. It landed at about 11:00 PM, so there were no accidents on the local roads! But there was one freakin-out spotter jumping up and down on the mound when it landed (that would be me!)

I once saw an Ansett 737 in Denver at the old Stapleton Airport. It was sitting in front of the United hanger north of the terminal. I don't know if it was there for maintenance or what.

One opportunity that I missed out on was a Frontier 737 that had an emergency landing at Centennial Airport on the south side of Denver. It's a general aviation airport, although very busy (one of the top 25 busiest airports in the country). Frontier had to get special permission from the FAA to take off... and it took a long time to get that permission!

Well, at my home airport, DEN I've seen some good stuff - An-124 a couple of times, got it on film, but not on digital or airliners.net. I saw a 737-700BBJ that belonged to UAE government. Dallas Mavericks 757-200 paid a visit to DEN as well, and I saw it a few days later at Buckley AFB. Also, I saw F-117 land at Buckley as well. DC-9-14 of USA Jet paid a visit on February 23rd in horrible weather, ATI/BAX Global DC-8's have landed here as well. Kingdom Holding A-340-200 visited DEN February of 2000, 2 IL-76's of Algerian Airforce paid a visit as well, I saw a Northwest DC-10 depart on March 31st this year, and SkyKing 737-200, which I snapped.

AA 767's are not common here, but I've seen them here, including Ex-TWA planes in old and globe liveries. DL and CO sent 764's and CO sent 762 here as well. Aaron Mandolesi went to photograph ACES Colombia ATR-42, I am not sure if he was successful with it, but I guess we will find out soon. A-300 of UPS has been spotted here too, usually we get a 767. As for Centennial - DASH-7's, Lockheed Jetstars and a few Global Expresses have landed there too - I work right across from the runway.

How often did you get the CO dc-10's in CLE? I flew one from CLE-IAH about 5 years ago and the gate personnel were all freaking out about it being there.

The Antonov Design Bureau AN-124 has flown into and out of MKE a few times. A friend saw it on approach while we were at Jazz in the Park one day last summer, and told me to look up. THAT was a real surprise. I also heard its engines spooling up for take-off a few days later, and drove down to the observation area off Layton Avenue to watch it.

When I lived in San Francisco, I saw the Aeroflot IL-62 and IL-96-300 on approach and taking off. I also saw an IL-62 taxying. Those weren't rare planes for my eyes, but not too common at the airport itself.

The ex-AA 747-100 used to carry the space shuttle flew into AN / KSAN), USA - California">SAN when I was a kid. I didn't know it was at the airport, but I was taking swimming lessons at the YMCA, and heard it taking off. My mom yelled at me to watch the instructor, because I was looking up at the plane while I was in the pool. I later told her I saw a 747, and she didn't believe me because "they can't land in San Diego!" Well, it was in the paper the next day that the plane had come to AN / KSAN), USA - California">SAN for a bath.

I was shocked to see a Tower Air 747 landing at COS one day going to pick someone up... and equally shocked to see an LH 747 at a gate there one day in 1995 or 1996.

I knew it was going to be amazing to work at this new job... and it is. In the afternoons, all the heavies going to IAD almost come in between our buildings.

About a year or two ago there was an Air Canada plane at LGA that was hit in the tail by the food truck. One of my moms friends a the tower told us that the Beluga was coming into LGA with a new tail....that was a real sight to see the A300-600ST at LGA's 7000' runways!

I do have pictures, but they were taken before I really started taking pictures of airplanes! If you want to see them ill have to scan em

Years ago, in 1979, I worked for Air Midwest in Lubbock, TX. There were a few times when Braniff International would bring in the B-747 (Fat Albert) and run touch and goes for about 30 minutes to an hour. They would do this when DFW was socked in due to fog and Waco, which was their next alternate was also socked in with fog.

This was "way before" I got into airliner photography or I would have shot the heck out of it. We'd just stand out on the ramp and watch this beautiful, fat orange 747 do touch and goes all day long if we could !! It was amazing!

I've also had the honor of touring Ray Charles Viscount airliner. He was playing in a concert once in Lubbock and we got to look on board the plane. Also, UA brought in an "all-coach" DC-8 one year with the USC Trojan football team on board. Each of those players were HUGE !! Even the punter was bigger than any of Texas Tech's players. They killed us in that game!

I remember the night, while working at the PA hangar in MIA, we heard this weird engine noise about 0330 local, walked out of the break room, and saw an IL-76D parking on our ramp (it turned out to be a scientific team heading down to Antartica for the "balmy summer months" that was tech stopping at our facilities). Since we were never advised, it was quite a shock in 1988!

I saw a US Government "Homeland Security" Black Hawk at my hometown airport, Lynchburg, VA a couple of months ago 2002-2003. It was interesting to see it in LYH. After arriving at the airport, it departed for WashingtonDC.

Was amazed by UA 777 here in PDX. He was coming out of the paint shop and jut waiting to depart. We've had the AN-124s a couple of times, but they've been really rare lately.

Speaking of rare though we had an El Al Cargo charter last month, that was very strange. Then there are the occasional oddities heading for the paint shop, but I can't remember them off-hand right now.

regards,
Tom

I don't know if this is rare, but I saw two B-1 bombers flying in tandem toward the west in Washington DC.

Well you all missed the eighties and nineties at the worlds biggest small airport. Gander NFLD. If it was strange, we got it. Was truly an excellent place to just veg out at the airport. You never knew what you would/could see. All the old stuff that couldn't cross the pond with out a little jetA-1, and some really strange Soviet inventions. MD80 with UDF on it's way to the Paris air show was the coolest (abnormal) thing I saw. Of course, Concorde always took the cake!

About 10 years ago I saw a Lufthansa 727 taking off from MSP. No idea what it was doing here.

I think the days before & after the Fiesta Bowl were dreams come true for CMH spotters- Sun Country 738, ATA L-1011s, UA 747-400, World DC-10, etc. I was in Florida & only saw a Champion 727 when we got back on 1/4...

As for the closest decently sized airport to my hometown, ZZV (Zanesville, Ohio), we had a military Shorts 330 come in one day & I was able to go into the cabin and talked to the pilots. Also, a B-17 came to town earlier this year...flew right over our school during my lunch period. Ironically, the "bells" (tape recorded bell music) was playing "Here We Go, Into The Wild Blue Yonder..."

At NAS/JRB Willow Grove (NXX/KNXX) Ive seen a US Navy E-6B Mercury aircraft, a modified 707 command post normally based at Offutt AFB, make an unexplained visit a few months...also, a surprise visitor to the NXX open house 3 years back was a German Navy Dassault Atlantic ASW aircraft...although it was closed for tours my grandfather managed to talk the crew into letting me in...quite an experience...

At PHL...well...all that comes to mind is the UPS 763 in the new colors...Ive seen it there twice in 3 weeks  Smile

About three or four years ago, I was with my dad at IAH to pick up my grandmother in the evening and as we were nearing the terminals, I saw on the tarmac a An-124!
I never did find out what it was doing there, even though one of my friends fathers works for continental.

I was incredibly surprised and happy last summer when here in VRN (Verona-Italy) Air Europe 777-200ER operated a weekly charter to IBZ (Ibiza-Balearics islands-Spain).Usually the biggest plane here was Lauda Air Italy B.767-300ER and it was an EVENT yet.Too bad Air Europe has sold its two 772 to Air Austral this winter.

Cheers.
