If Sars Breaks Out In YYZ, Will AC Do A CX?

It sounds like despite the best efforts of Toronto's health authorities, SARS is on the verge of getting out of their control. The SARS clinics have said that they turned people away with SARS-like symptoms because they did not fit the contact profile, and then it turns out that these people may have been in contact with the virus!

Can you imagine YYZ (and Air Canada, in particular) if the SARS outbreak in Toronto escapes control of the health authorities there and gets loose in the population? YYZ will become just like CLK. Nobody in the world will want to go there. And Canadian travellers will be especially hard many people a day change planes in YYZ, people that will suddenly not want to go there...not even just to spend 45 minutes at the airport changing planes?

How do you think this will pan out...and what will be the effect on AC and Canadian air travel in general if the worst comes to pass?

I dont think that it will get as bad here as it is in Hong Kong but a few things need to happen, China needs to stop hiding information and lying to the world about this virus, and the people who get it, or even think they may have it need to stay in their homes/hospital for the 10 day period and not break the quarantine rules like they have been doing....I still have hope that it will be under control here soon...

It will be interesting to see how CX handles things. Apparently their usual daily passenger count of 30K has dropped to 10K. Although many flights have been cancelled, most remaining have very low load factors. CX has threatened in an internal memo to ground all pax aircraft if daily passengers systemwide dip to 6K.

AC is less dependent on just YYZ than CX is on HKG. So as devastating as a SARS epidemic for AC would be for YYZ flights, many AC flights in other parts of the country would continue (I guess).

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I just thought I would "refresh" this topic, especially in the light of the WHO's travel advisory that now bans Toronto as a destination for non-essential travel. This certainly cannot help.
