Ryder Student Transportation, Owners Of NWA

Fri Apr 18, 2003 9:40 am

More then a few people have told me that Ryder Student Transportation (a bus company, which is a branch off of Ryder Truck Rental) owns Northwest Airlines. Is this true? I also heard that Laidlaw Bus owns an airline, does anyone know what that name might be?

Thanks Much,

Laidlaw, headquartered in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, does operate Greyhound Bus Lines in both the US and Canada though.

And Ryder Student Transportation was taken over by First, PLC of the United Kingdom.

from: http://www.firststudentinc.com/?P=about&S=default

First Student, Inc., is an operating unit of First, plc, a worldwide public transportation company traded on the London Stock Exchange. Annualized revenues are approximately $3.5 billion U.S. dollars with over 33,800 stockholders and 342 million shares outstanding. First's U.S. operations, including First Student, are organized under FirstGroup America, Inc. (formerly known as Ryder Public Transportation Services), which provides student transportation, public transit, and public fleet maintenance services to more than 800 customers throughout the United States.

First, plc was incorporated in 1995 out of the merger of two British bus companies, Badgerline Group and Grampian Regional Transport, which operate bus lines in the United Kingdom dating back more than 100 years in some cases. First, plc is now the United Kingdom's largest bus company with over 10,000 buses in service and 30,000 employees in Great Britain. FirstGroup's lines of business also include passenger rail and airport management, and with the acquisition of Ryder's public transportation division in September of 1999, First, plc is now also one of the largest bus companies in the United States.

Too bad Ryder went out! Ryder was the best! I drove for them, I got a new bus every year, they washed my bus every Friday! We used to do charters like you wouldn't believe! I worked at the Ryder in Milwaukee, WI. but when Ryders went under I was transfered to Safe Line/Riteway, they are not nearly as good as Ryder! AIM me at: Riteway117 and I'd be more then happy to tell you about Ryder and with them an NWA. I do know that they have somethin' to do with NWA.

Some people may try to compare NW to riding a school bus. Hey, school bus, Airbus, what's the difference?  Big grin No similarity.

Are you just pulling my leg or does U-Haul really own United? What other companies own airlines?
