A great look for the Airbus family, probably won't look back on the DC-9s either...however - I don't really care for the way it looks on the 74 and 75s. If anything, NW should do a "special" scheme for the 744s (at least) to take up some more room.
I am going to side wiht Ouboy. The Airbus fleet will look great as this livery suits their planes perfectly. The 753 is a little strange but so are they all and the 744, just don't like it. Can't wait for the A330! Anyways this topic has been discussed to death....
Ah, of course. An airline has a unique, original and great-looking livery, but they have to change it to a generic, i'm-like-everyone-else white scheme. I guess the livery isn't that bad in itself, but when compared to the old one its just ugly, in my opinion.
My concern with the DC10 is how Northwest paints the tail. They said the reason for the silver across the bottom of the tail was to make the compass on the tail look the same on all aircraft. In order for them to follow this on the DC10, they would need to paint the engine and below silver, while only painting the top half of the tail red with the logo. Hopefully they have something better in mind, since that much silver on the tail would really wreck the Northwest red tail trademark.

Couldn't agree more with your statement. The old scheme had character and the new one in comparison to the old scheme is BLAND The best white and red scheme would be Qantas and the new NW scheme is definately a distant second to that
I wasn't sure about this new livery either, but the more I see it the more I like it. And spotting at MSP can be boring as all get out with all the NW aircraft you see. It will be a nice change for a little while at least. Looks like NW is expecting this new livery to be another cost cutting measure. See the excerpt below from www.nwa.com press release:
"The new design will be phased into the entire Northwest fleet - a total of 436 aircraft - during its regularly scheduled repainting planned over the next five years. A total of 27 new jets delivered in 2003 and up to 50 aircraft currently owned by the airline will be painted in the new livery by the end of this year.
The paint scheme will save Northwest about 20 percent in future painting costs, based on several factors: fewer primary colors, simpler design and paint process, and greater durability. The airline made the decision to continue with the project during these difficult economic times because of the number of new jetliners being delivered this year, plus the need to repaint existing aircraft that are due for maintenance and repainting. Had Northwest delayed the new livery it would have forfeited any immediate cost savings."
It goes on to explain that the paint cycle for the aircraft will be extended to 6 years instead of 5 because of less fading and a special "coating" that will preserve the paint more efficiently.
You've welcome! I still like it with NW new colours very much and this is wonderful to see more those aircraft will chance repainted. I rather that will try to come in at FLL sometime with new colours anytime soon. Well, talk ya later!
Just a little info.
The first nwa A330-330 to be delivered (3302) has been painted with the new livery.
I have seen the pictures, yet am unable to make them available to this site.
They look great!!!!!
If anyone is in Toulose, they just might be able to get a shot of it!
I noticed someting when the A320 came to PHL today; The white color is actually got a pearl sheen to it. The pics I've seen don't show it very well. They come off grey, or off white. but its actually more like a metallic whit or pearl. Interesting choice of colors.
I also saw that the logo points NE on the rigth side of the airplane. Thought that was a little odd.
