8 CX Flights HKG-KUL Canceled Today?

Fri Apr 25, 2003 3:31 am

I was browsing through Cathay's flight cancellations and I came across the departure information for CX's flight out of Hong Kong on Thursday (April 24). I found that there were 8 CX flights bound for Kuala Lumpur that were canceled (flight no: CX 3331/32/33/34/35/36/37/38) and the only one that was not cancled was CX 721 bound for KUL at 3 pm.

Anybody knows what happened to these flights or rather, why were there 8 flights that were planned anyway? Even in the peak Chinese New Year period, I think Cathay operated a maximum of 5 daily flights into KUL (excluding code-share with MAS) and now there's 9 flights in one day? Also, what sort of flights is designated to CX 3*** series? (I know it's not cargo since cargo's flight number is less than 100)

Thanx in advance!

The airline in question has resumed a limited service to Kuala Lumpur from Hong Kong due to the lifting of Malaysian restrictions on visitors from SARS affected areas.

One return flight to and from KUL and HKG now operates daily.

As far as I know, all scheduled CX passenger services operate with three digit flight numbers, except for codeshares, charters and the DHL Starlight Express services. However as the latter usually fly in and out at the dead of night and normally start as CX2***, my guess would be charter.

There were plans to send 8 aircraft to KUL for long term parking.

Flight numbers were CX3331 onwards but this was cancelled yesterday.

Was going to be

744 * 3
340 * 2
773 * 2
330 * 1

Aircraft are now parked at HKG

Babaero,

We did this the other day to Pattaya, but ended up cancelling those flights too. Is Cathay doing it to try to prove it's point that it is willing to ferry the aircraft elsewhere in order to force them to lower the parking fees here?
Also can you please go and sign up on the HK Spotting Forum again, as everything was lost in a recent hacker incident. Your information is eagerly awaited!!

They have had some troubles and will be moving addresses soon, but at the moment the above one is correct.

Does Cathay keep the same aircraft grounded each day, or do they switch them?

When the loads first dropped tail numbers were rotated to avoid costly storage maintenance fees.

Now 14 aircraft are parked and these will remain the same for the future.
