I looked at flytecomm.com and flight arrivals.com and noticed this...

Airline Northwest
Flight Number 9752
Departure City (Airport) Dothan, AL (DHN)
Departure Time 04/26/2003 07:11 PM
Arrival City (Airport) Detroit, MI (DTW)
Arrival Time 04/26/2003 09:54 PM
Remaining Flight Time 00:00
Aircraft Type McDonnell Douglas DC-10 (all series)
Current Altitude 0 feet
Current Groundspeed 0 mph
Flight Status Arrived

Isn't Dothan Alabama a place where they do paintjobs and conversions? Could this be a DC-10 in new colors for NW?

That should be it in the new livery, 1226 was due to be put into service soon. Someone should go snoop around DTW or AMS soon to be looking for it.

I'm in the flight path for all the European flights out of DTW and I've watched the skies and didn't see any new livery in the air. Still the flights to LGW and CDG tonight.

NeilAlp, are you south or north of DTW?

Because I noticed today that the wind shifted sometime around 4-5 pm, I recall seeing the planes taking off to the north earlier in the day, then at 5 i seen them landing from the north.

I still have not seen a new c/s flying over my house yet.

If 1226 is still in Alabama then what was the DC10 that arrived on Saturday? Was it just down there for maintenance work, not repainting?

HlywdCatft,

I'm in Troy and amazingly with take offs to the south they circle back around and head up straight over my house. North departures are the same only with no turn. It is also interesting when weather is moving or the big rush right around 4pm the inbound aircraft make the turn for 22R and 22L also over Troy. I've found good plane viewing spot to be my driveway.

But back to the European flights/DC10's generally when I listen on my scanner I find they are about 15,000-20,000 feet up and direct to PEK. (The vor I believe around the thumb of Michigan) Back a few summers ago when there were 6 flights to AMS + the addition flights it felt like they were always coming by. Now I tend just to hear/see NWA 40,68 KLM618 BA202 and Luft. 403.

Keeping my eyes open for the newly painted DC-10. If it truly was painted.

Best of plane viewing.

Hi,
That was one of two DC-10's (1226 or 1235) that PEMCO is completing M2 and L-chks on.
Both were to depart this past weekend or early this week for scheduled service.
I don't think either will be getting the new paint job. Initially, 1226 was going to be painted, but I believe nwa wants to save some $'s by not painting any DC-10's in the new livery.

Is Northwest really going to be able to get away with not painting any of the DC10s? I would understand if they were going to be retired in the next year or two, but they're still going to be around for a few years and some will certainly reach their scheduled paintings by then.

I guess its possible, do you remember how bad some of the -40's were looking a few years ago?
