Meals Return To Qantas Domestic

Wed Apr 30, 2003 10:16 am

Inflight Cuisine

To improve your inflight experience, we have created an economy class meal service that offers more variety with an enhanced presentation.

On flights up to 2.5 hours, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on half trays, lined with newly designed tray mats and cutlery.

On flights longer than 2.5 hours, a full tray service is offered with hot meals.

Meal boxes are used to serve refreshments throughout the day and incorporate new contemporary designs supporting Australian arts and culture.

Meal service times

Breakfast up to 8.30am (9.30am on longer flights)
Lunch between 12.00noon and 1.30pm
Dinner between 6.00pm and 8.30pm

A new range of snacks including scones with jam and cream, a variety of dips served with bruschetta, naan bread and rice crackers, savoury mixes, fresh tasty cakes, biscuits, nougats and mints are offered between meal services.

Meals may vary on QantasLink services.

Thats what the website says, the dreaded boxes will stay around but only during snack services betweeen the meals services above. So finally meals have returned to all flights (bar some of the QFlink services). I think this may be one of Dixons moves to defend the 'line in the sand'.

Qantas has also just releaased its new duty free catalogue 'Wish on;Q" I wonder what else can become "on:Q" AVOD would suit ON:Q
I like work: it fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours. Jerome K Jerome

As one of the fiercest critics of the current "full-service" cardboard cretinous creation I can only applaud QF on this move back toward it's former service levels.

Effective today 30 April.

The meals for flights under 2.5 hours are cold. Over 2.5 hours are hot. Breakfast will feature current museli product with an apple and muffin (example). Lunch will be current sandwiches with a choc bar (and cheese and crackers on flights 1.5-2.5 hours). Better sandwiches/rolls are on the way. Dinner will be a better cold salad (effective immediately) with a bread roll and chocolate and mints. Cheese and crackers is added on 'medium flights' flights 1.5-2.5 hours.

All flights over 2.5 hours feature hot meals on 2/3 (international) size trays.

1/3 boxes remain for snacks but the contents will be much more varied and a little nicer.

Double cater flights will still feature 1/3 box regardless of whether it is a meal or snack flight. Current double cater flights are SYD-HTI-SYD (717 and 737), BNE-HTI-BNE (146 and 737), all Tassie flights (717) (though Catering will return to these ports soon) and flights CNS-GOV-DRW (146).

Effective 1 July all 717 flights over 100 minutes will feature two bar runs in addition to normal meal service. Although there are teething problems all 717 flights now feature a magazine library. This is in lieu of an IFE system.

Along with their just released business friendly new domestic fare structure, this is a fair crack of a salvo right across the bows of juggernaut VirginBlue.
Looks like QF has reached that line in the sand and is going for, (and will get back), those wandering road warriors/corporates who defected to the Blue.
Let's face it - now that they have a fare in place that is equal to or better than the Blue's in price and conditions, the added "extras" of lounge, miles, frequency, comfort and food make any decision between the two a no brainer for corporate types.
Laughed when I saw the wording on the snack boxes have had the "Enjoy" replaced by "Good Morning" and "Snack". Guess they finally saw the oxymoron on the first option!!
 Smile/happy/getting dizzy
Cheers.
