Yes, at least for a year. Like Kwbl
is getting some very strong incentives from the Port of Portland for their service here. Add to that the "travel bank" worked out betweenthe business community, LH
, and the Port, and you have some decent reasons to stay, but really only for this year.
Whether the flight lasts in its current configuration past the first year is anyone's guess. With the instability in both air travel and Oregon's economy, it's a crap shoot. They may see very strong numbers and keep it a daily, or those numbers may not pan out and LH
will reduce the frequency. If the Port can generate feed into the flight it can do very well. The only competition to Europe (non-stop) is in SEA
) and regardless of what some people think, the 3 hour drive can be worth it. (a friend of my wife's came from Norway to my wedding saved signifcantly to fly into SEA
, we spent $20 on gas and 6 hours drive time...much better than the $300 she would have had to pay). I can tell you though, freight loads are pretty good, higher than even LH
expected, so at least that is panning out for them...
Bottom line though is that it is waaaaay to early to start betting on LH
's stay in PDX
