Continental BusinessFirst!!!!! Remember, this is a thread about service, not seats, fabrics, wood, flowers, etc. Service.

Also, Continental's service on the phone and on the ground is just the best.

Singapore Airlines' Singapore Girls:

Singapore Airlines' legendary customer service standards are symbolised by the gracious "Singapore Girl". In her distinctive uniform, a sarong kebaya in batik material, she personifies SIA's tradition of friendly service and Asian hospitality.

I have never experienced better service than on this airline and I have flown on 23 airlines:

This was the meal I was given on a short 1 hour flight on an A321!!!

Above you see two half cold sandwiches. One with turkey and mayo, and the other with feta cheese all surrounded with lettuce and olives. You also see 2 delicious caramalized cinnamon biscuits, orange juice, and I opted for a cup of tea, but they were also offering coffee and sodas.

They passed around newspapers during the flight, and surprisingly even Duty free! All this on a one hour flight.

A nice touch was they passed around Werthers hard caramel candy on decent to keep our ears open from the pressure changes.

By the way, this was all in Economy. Business Class got hot meals and were treated like kings.

Again what's amazing is all this was given on a low-priced ONE-HOUR flight from Cairo to Beirut.

A while ago I used there Cedar Lounge (Business Class lounge) in Beirut Int'l and it was simply fantastic.

It can be seen below, the glassy rounded area behind the MEA A321 tail:

Most of the time British Airways are excellent; but they drop the ball sometimes. Let's say 75% overall  Insane

I've only had two short flights with Finnair, but they easily get 90%.

The best longhaul experience was with Sri Lankan, they would get about 85%, but that's a while ago - before a chunk of their fleet was destroyed in Colombo. Haven't tried them since, unfortunately.

Based on my experience:

1. Singapore Airlines -> 95
2. Emirates -> 90
3. BMI ->80
4. Gulf Air -> 75
5. Scandinavian -> 70
6. Midwest Express -> 65

Also (airlines gone): Swissair, Sabena.

Singapore Airlines & Cathay Pacific. Asia's best! You can never go wrong with these two trend-setters. Though I do give SIA the slight edge here because of their fantastic entertainment system. Plus Changi Airport is miles ahead of Chek Lap Kok in providing the facilities for the transit passenger. It's like the airport is bigger than the city itself  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Intercontinental:

British Airways offers very good service in Business and Economy Class.

Within Europe:

Air France, very good in Business but also in Economy Class.

Regarding services I experienced, there are two very distinct categories: Singapore Airlines and the others.

However, I am looking forward to trying Emirates and Virgin Atlantic. Their Business Class services, I heard, are fantastic!

Hello

Crossair's service was excellent. Champagne on every flight and nice meals. I give them 100%!
Unfortunately I cannot say that SWISS' service comes even close to the Crossair service.

Air New Zealand consistently gets top marks for FA service, although the whole in flight product is a little dated now (no IFE in economy etc.)

But for food, wine and a genuine interest and warmth in giving a great service Air New Zealand has won for me everytime I flown with them over the last 7 years.

I use to like SwissAir as well, but since their demise the SWISS product is not a patch on what it used to be.

Best U.S. domestic service (longhaul) : Alaska Airlines
Best U.S. international service : Continental Airlines

I can't say they are the best, but from my experience AEROFLOT has been very good. Singapore_Air always says "Singapore Girls" whether it's good looking FAs, good service. jetBlue is good, but once I had a surly agent, so I take that back. USAirways has good US Domestic Service throughout the whole nation, not just Alaska and the pacific northwest like AS>

You may want to re-check your facts. US Airways has extensive service on the East Coast, but limited midwest and West Coast presence.

Alaska Airlines has extensive service on the West Coast and Alaska, with limited service to the East Coast.

While AS is nowhere near the same size as US, neither truly covers the whole nation.

Southwest, hands down.

They deliver a top-quality product, consistently and with respect.

Given the choice on a given itinerary (unfortunately, out of Dallas not as often as I'd like), I'd choose WN.

Less hassle, more flight options, better FF program. Just good stuff.

As a frequent WN apologist, I am gonna have to concur with SCCutler.

Southwest doesn't carry you from the gate to your seat in a sedan chair. You are not served truffles, peeled mice in heavy cream, and a hunk of cheese that smells like a gym sock.

The interior of their aircraft is comfortable if utilitarian.

That being said, their personnel almost universally exhibit an attitude that tells you why they are making money. They understand that the customer is the reason for their existence. To me, all of the hot towels and cups of coffee with brandy poured in mean very little if the rank-and-file employees don't act like they appreciate my business.

And yes, there is a difference between people who say "thank you for choosing to fly my airline" and people who really mean "thank you for flying my airline."

lufthansa first class, easily better than SQ one, I was ( and am) SOOOO impressed. it may be the caviar ( two rounds!) and the chairs. F/A's always do their best and are truly amazing and friendly

scandinavian business class. the service I like, attentive yet inobtrusive

CX, business is great too, although there is such a difference in the attitude of the F/A's from biz to eco. four flights in Y and the girls were truly disinterested and rude while in C they are basically flying to serve you ( maybe a tad too much, I odn't have time to raise my bulky head to be approached by one of them...I was just looking around!)

SAA business - just beautiful.

SQ and BA (both 99%) in First cannot be beat! In economy, BMI in Europe is wonderful!(95%).

SIA - 95%
Cathay Pacific - 92%
EVA - 85%
China Airlines - 78%
Malaysian Airlines - 70%
British Airways - 68%
FinnAir - 65%

Just some off the top of my head. Note that I've never taken Business/First.... so all of the airlines above are judged on their Economy service.

in the 'former' words (ie. its old slogan) of its European partner KLM,

...next time, try Malaysian.

Just straight forward 'service' with cabin crew who love their job. Their ground staff may be a little 'touch and go' but up there where it really matters - Malaysia Airlines is well known for being warm, charming and most importantly (and perhaps what separates it from its neighbouring competitor) downright 'down-to-earth'.

...the best part is - they don't even need to advertise it - the 'word of mouth' reputation it has, is far more effective.

I like within Europe British Airways mostly.
On international I would prefer Virgin Atlantic in upper class and probaly BA in coach.
Within US domestic I would prefer to fly on DL.
