Horizon Air To Santa Rosa?

Sat May 03, 2003 4:40 pm

Will Horizon Air start new flights Los Angeles-Santa Rosa or Seattle/Portland - Santa Rosa flights in the near future. I know there was another topic about Santa Rosa and Horizon Air starting flights from Seattle but I was just reading an article on flights from Los Angeles. Will Horizon Air fly the CRJ700 or Q400 into Santa Rosa. That would be nice to see Horizon Air's Q400 at LAX. I am sure if the flight is started from Seattle it will be a CRJ-700.

I think Santa Rosa will be a great addition to Horizon Air's destinations in California. Horizon Air flies to Redding, Arcata, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles, Fresno, Palm Springs and Santa Barbara to Seattle, Portland, Boise, Eugene, Medford and Sun Valley.

It is just amazing how Horizon Air is expanding so much not just in the Northwest but all over the western US linking all major cities in the northwest to California.

santa rosa is a tough market for any airline, due to runway length with winds. that is the only reason that skywest pulled out last year, not because of loads to lax. loads to lax were great because ua ex offered north bay residents the chance to fly at the same cost down to l.a. and avoid all the hassles of the city, albeit on an emb120, but still, loads were fine. skywest approached the airport and wanted a runway extension to be able to fly the rj into santa rosa and do it with full loads and no payload restrictions. a friend of mine lives in the town next to santa rosa and use to work at the airport, and said the airport never came through with their promises to work on the runway. so skywest said see you later. the city received the same offer from mesa to operate rj equip on behalf of america west express twice daily down to phoenix, but the city sat on their butts and did nothing about it. so my question, why would horizon bother with an airport not wanting to work with any commuter that serves it? another point, not only commuters have this problem, remember southwest fought for years with detroit city, never got what they wanted, so southwest told det to take a hike and they pulled out.

Flyboy7974, thats interesting cause I know we as Alaska Air Group have talked about service in STS and they have no problems with the issue of runways extention. We told them is they want a CR7 they do have to extend it. Maybe its something thats past the airports control, enviromentalist. You know that area up there is very bad. Also, QX from STS-SFO has been a rumor attached to a STS start-up, I'm not holding my breath. Now a EMB120 having problems with the runway up there? Thats interesting, 32 is over 5,000 ft. I don't think that to short for a 120. I could be wrong. I knew and agents at STS for Skywest, they said it was in fact loads that forced them to drop it. I'm sure there are many stories though.
