What Non US Cities Served By Virgin Atlantic?

Sun May 04, 2003 12:36 am

I'm just curious how big they really are. Do they serve cities in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Far East? Do they have alliance partners?

Mainline Virgin Atlantic serve Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong in the far east, Barbados and Antigua in the carribean, no routes to the Middle East, Lagos, Cape Town and Johannesburg in Africa.

Virgin Express serve Brussels, Copehagen in Europe.

I'm missing a few, cant remember the other routes.
In Arsene we trust!!

To add to Arsenal's list:

Tobago, Grenada and St.Lucia in the Caribbean.
Port Harcourt in Africa.

Virgin Express and Virgin Blue are seperate airlines, ie they have their own hubs and do not feed VS mainline.

No alliance partners but we do codeshare on some routes with Malaysian, Singapore Airlines (VS are 49% owned by SQ before Singapore_Air mentions it!  Wink/being sarcastic ), BMI, Continental and Nationwide (S Africa).

Cheers

Lagos, Delhi, Shanghai, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Athens, Hong Kong, Tokyo.

In the past, you could include Toronto.

According to the route map, Virgin no longer serves ATH. I remember seeing an A321 of Virgin there in June of 2001, but I also remember them later canceling the route and getting rid of the A321s.

I forgot to add this in my above post. Do you think they will ever again in the near future serve shorthaul routes with their own aircraft? Their website lists a few cities in Europe served by partners, but none of their own except LHR and LGW, which purely do longhaul for Virgin. It seems that the possibilities for connections to further destinations with the airline are limited. Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like you either go to London or are coming from it with them.

Airplanetire

The ATH route was dropped at the end of 2001 summer season. Virgin Sun (who operated A320/321s) had been sold off and it didn't make economic sense to have a shorthaul fleet of one aircraft.

No current plans for any shorthaul routes...they are far too well served by BA/BMI and the low cost carriers in the UK. Most of the traffic is point to point but there's nothing to stop you flying on from LHR on another carrier of course!

Virgin places its own codes on MH1/2, MH3/4 between LHR and KUL as VS501/502, VS503/504. From KUL onwards, VS flight numbers also appear on flights to Melbourne and Sydney.

When the code-share first began in the early 1990s, Virgin flight attendants also flew on board MAS flights serving passengers alongside MAS. The code-share with MAS is due to end soon and there are signs that it won't be renewed - esp. since SIA bought a stake in VS.
