I know a lot can change before September, but I did notice that as of 9/1/03, the last Delta mainline flights on this route, DL2247/2244, operated by MD-90's, will be replaced by CRJ-700's.
I have to question this move because ever since most of the MSY-DFW flights were replaced by RJ's in April, this one last mainline flight has been getting great loads and going out with a full F-class cabin every day.
So sad to see it come down to this, even though it will be nice to see CRJ-700's here (the route will consist of 2 CR7's, 2 CRJ's, and 4 ERJ's as of 9/1).
This route was a served by L1011's and 767's/57's for many years.
Now the only mainline option to DFW is American with 6 daily MD-80's....and of course Southwest's 7 flights to Love Field.
I see this decision by Delta forcing some passengers over to AA, which is enjoying 90%+ load factors on those flights as it is. Some people do not like RJ's for even a 1-hour flight, so this would not surprise me at all.
It's a strickly business decision I know, but man, it really is sad to see. I thought I'd NEVER see the day where full-size Delta aircraft wouldn't be flying New Orleans - Dallas/Ft.Worth. It's like a knife through my heart.
Thank god for my old flight schedules so I can recall the good old days. Delta can't take that away from me.
