Midwest Airlines Colors

Fri May 09, 2003 2:11 am

I am used to spotting at LGA and seeing Midwest Express MD-80s and DC-9s in the blue and yellow colors.

Yesterday I saw a plane at LGA which jsut said "Midwest" and seemed to have new colors:

Is "Midwest" now operating out of LGA now as opposed to Midwest Express?

Is this a new scheme? When did they start painting the planes like so?

Are they only painting their 717s in that color, as it seems from the list of the pics of it that came up in my search?

They're the same airline... Midwest Express no longer exists, but obviously repainting their planes will take a while.

So they will be giving their MD-80s this new look too?

Believe there is an MD-80 already in the new livery.

Old old news.... there have probably been many threads on this here in the past.

It is a complete name change and brand make-over. They are repainting all aircraft that will not be retired, so the MD-80's should be repainted. Some DC-9 will not be painted.

Indeed, at least one of the MD 80's is painted as Midwest with the new logo - N814ME I believe. It was sitting on the YX hanger ramp at MKE last Saturday

It is N813ME that is painted in the new color scheme. This plane didn't enter service with them until the name change happned. That is the only reason that plane is painted in that scheme. The other MD80s will not be "repainted" any time soon. They will probably blue out the express and put some decal on the tail. None of the DC9s will be painted as they are ALL being retired. Hope this helps.

I noticed in the current schedule that there were no flights using the DC9-10. Did they park all of these so quickly? There were a number of flights with them in the last schedule.

I "believe" they are still flying the DC 9 - 10 series.
I saw one at DFW just recently.

Also, just an FYI. Midwest is going to start an airline within an airline for low cost segments.........I just can't see why these "MBA" types think this can be done. Delta is now working on try number two with Song and UA destroyed Shuttle by United and now is thinking about it again. How stupid !!

Jettblasterp, I hear there are at least two more MD-80s headed for the paint shop to get the new colour scheme. I will have to confirm which birds they are.

As for the DC-9-10s, there is still one in service, for now.

Im pretty sure the only DC9-10 series still in service is N700ME as shown in a recent photo in Dallas.

Does anybody have a pic of the MD-80 in the new colors?

Last week in our staff meeting with our manager in the hangar he told us that all of the DC9-10's might be parked by the end of May. So, we will have to see if it's true or not.

Ilyushin96M,

The MD-80s headed for paint must be going thru a major check or they are scheduled to be used for the new LCC. Keep me updated if you can.

The -10s still with YX are 300, 500, 600, & 700. The are not "scheduled" for flying but are available to fly if needed. It is rare. 300 is going to BOS today. I don't think we will see much of these anymore.

JayDavis,

The LCC thing could work for them as they are able to ADD seats to their airplanes to lower costs. US and DL do not have that option.

N500ME is gone from the Midwest fleet. It flew to MIA last week. Just three DC9-10's left N300ME N600ME and N700ME.

Midwest Airlines is Midwest Express. They just changed their name to "Midwest" in an effort of boost profits. When people saw "Express" they thought MEH was a small regional carrier. I will miss the old paint scheme!

Thanks Much,
DC-9-32

P.S.- MEH still has one DC-9-10 or -15 which they use solely for charters, that bird will be around for awhile!

Douglas DC-9,

Where do you get your info that Midwest Airlines is going to keep one of there DC9-10's for charters? Once again, the info I got from my manager at the Midwest hangar is that all of the DC9-10's series will be parked by the end of May unless things have changed. I will ask him tomorrow but as of now that is what is going to happen. N600ME was going to leave for MIA today at 1300. If that happend then we have N300ME and N700ME left and are only used as spares.

MidEx717- I read it somewhere, and it even says that they do have an aircraft just for chartering and it looks to be a DC-9-10. I read that this aircraft would be the last DC-9 to leave the MEH fleet. You can see it here:

http://www1.midwestexpress.com/services/charter/chartercharterjet.asp

I think that at least 1 if not more of the aircraft should be put into a museum.

Midex717,

Can you send me a personal email? I wanted to ask you something about Mitchell Field in Milwaukee.

Well Midwest Airlines has one DC9-30 that's a dedicated charter aircraft and it's N302ME. Many sports teams has flown on it like the Milwaukee Bucks, New Jersey Devils, etc. I have flown on it and it has alot of legroom. If you like at the picture at that web site its a DC9-30 not a -10. You can tell because it has four overwing exits. The DC9-10's have only two overwing exits.
