Comair Emergency Landing

Fri May 09, 2003 10:51 am

A Comair CRJ operating as Delta Connection flight 5491 from Atlanta to Huntsville, Alabama has made an emergency landing in Rome, Georgia. No injuries reported but fire onboard is suspected.
I work for Southwest, but the views expressed are my own and do not necessarily represent those of Southwest.

Here's a link to a local news story. It says they diverted due to smoke in the cabin. The smoke was traced to a "suspicious" lavatory fire.

Yes the plane was on its way here to Huntsville, only a 30 minute flight usually. The smoke was caused by someone lighting a piece of newspaper in the lav. THe paper has been sent to the FBI crime lab to analyze it for fingerprints. 48 pax on board, i think that they can expect to be interviewed by the FBI. That's a serious crime, lighting something like that.

How far away from the ATL airport is Rome, GA?
Last year 1,944 New Yorkers saw something and said something.

They say lighting a match is a better air freshener than Lysol. I read that in some advice column once.

If lighting a match is better than lysol then imagine what lighting an entire CRJ would do!

I think you're on to something there. I'm sure the FBI won't mind if they give it any thought.

Nature forms us for ourselves, not for others; to be, not to seem.
