Service Between Heathrow And Guernsey, Channel Isl

Mon May 12, 2003 10:13 am

Does anyone happen to know if any airlines currently fly between Heathrow (LHR) and Guernsey, Channel Islands (GCI)?

I realize that British Airways provides service between LGW and GCI, but I was looking for an airline that could fly me straight from LHR (that is, from where I would be connecting).

Thanks,

Derek

Sadly not, I'm afraid - nor (which is even worse, because I live there!) between Heathrow and Jersey.

Air UK (later KLM uk) used to fly LHR-GCI, but sold the slots to BA, which subsequently closed the route. This was actually the subject of litigation, which Guernsey unfortunately lost. BA closed LHR-JER in October 2000.

Strong rumours that EI are looking at LHR JER again, using A320's. This will happen by freeing up 2 -3 of their DUB slots.

I just read that article on Airliner World that said Guernsey's only served via Gatwick, and even that may be in trouble.

I must profess I've never been to Jersey or Guernsey, nor am I intimate with the scene though...

Don't think there are any flights between LHR and GCI

What a coincidence we have just lost our BA Gatwick service today as BA souces out the ATR 72 as of July. Aurigny are taking the route over and the States of Guernsey are considering buying them for £5 million.

KLM uk sold their LHR slots to BA (well, technically they swopped them for BA moonlight slots and somehow a couple of million GBPs made their way from BA HQ to UK HQ....) and moved the service from LHR to STN in the late 1990s. The STN service was axed after a while and taken over by Aurigny with the Saab 340s (still served today). Since then, there has been no direct LHR-GCI service.

I guess you will be aware of the fact that VLM Airlines has applied for a LCY - GCI (- JER - ZRH) route recently.

Not sure about the LTN service by JEA/BEA/flyBE - does it still operate ?
