Thank U Heathrow

Wed May 14, 2003 4:50 pm

I was at Heathrow this Sunday and Monday, and what a great time it was, its such a shame that the fence has that barrier all around it, but i managed to get over that hurdle by standing on the pavement on the opposite side of the road.
I was also on the approach path a few times, near the maintenance hangar, where i was lucky enough to see Concorde being towed across the road to T4.
also seen were a few Gulf Air A340'S, Cathay Pacific 744's, and saw Concorde land right overhead 2 times whilst i was there.
Heathrows a great airport to visit, a shame the viewing area on T2 was closed but i hate taking pics up there anyway because its too far away from any runway action for my Camera to pick up.
Anyway flew there and back on Bmi A320 G-MIDZ (I forgot which one we flew back on though.)

If your thinking of visiting EGLL for just one day i recommend it, its very satisfying and very, vey busy  Smile
Its not the fall that kills u, its the sudden stop at the end..

I'm going down to LHR tomorrow, I know that Concorde takes off at about 10:30, but isn't there 2 flights to JFK from Heathrow?

I know one lands at around 18:00, what about the other?

The terraces are closed? So where is a good place to watch planes now? Also, where has the aviation shop gone on the terraces? I planned to buy my JP there!!

Yes CX, the spotters terrace is closed currently until further notice.

http://fly.to/fwog should help with other places.

The aviation shop is still open up there?? However, I MAY have heard on the LHR list that it was closed for rennovation though  Sad

I flew into LHR yesterday, IB4144 from Seville, landed around 1540, wonder if anyone saw me land on 27R...

Not since the beginning of April, the slot was used for something else, pissed off a lot of regular customers, 400 complaints apparently.
But as things have turned out, the new time is better for the large numbers flying on Concorde for a last chance and for leisure.
You do wonder if we had the balls to do a proper (BA003) evening flight sooner, as well as the proper 10:30 BA001, we'd have been in a better position, but BA reckoned pressure from some US customers made them go for an evening flight.
But you know how rudderless and generally crap BA marketing has been in recent years, all those Waterside twats justifying their existence.
We really need two flights per day to meet the incredible demand, not likely as we've been run down staff wise so much in the past year, so the petty agendas of some in Engineering management (who hate the aircraft, the one who announced the retirement to us could barely conceal his glee) have hit BA again.
Think of the extra cash we could make out of Concorde's last months, as it is BA may regret hinting at all the special things they are going to do to celebrate the retirement, it could all turn out to be a non-event.

There's a shop in the Visitors Centre on Bath road. That is also a decent place to spot indoors.

Thanks for your answers. I will see if I have time to go to LHR. After hearing all about it my priority to go there has dropped. Might buy a JP at the Gatwick shop instead.

Or get it straight from the source at the Buchair shop at ZRH. Heard it's less expensive there.

Its a shame that LHR doesn't have similar spots to airports like AMS, ZRH or MAN otherwise we'd be treated to some fantastic shots..

Cx flyboy:

Thought CX flew to ZRH with 340s... but perhaps you don't fly 340s, only the Boeings ?
