According to AZ's website, the airline has ordered 5 B747-443s, but this order has yet to be confirmed by Boeing.
New Air? Do you mean JetBlue?

Alitalia ordered 5 B747-400s a couple of months ago, as part of a bigger order, together with its partner KLM. Remember that AZ's thrice weekly MXP-SIN-SYD rotation is operated by KLM's 744s, because AZ has no suitable equipment to do so.

Alitalia has ordered 5 747-400 during the Aerosalon this year together with an order for 6 ERJ-145 plus 10 options. They haven´t ordered the 744 together with KLM!!! And concerning the 717 rumour: this is not likely to become true. They already have a large AI fleet consisting of A320/321 and the A318 would be the most likely addition together with some A319. The next big fleet decisions will be how the MD-11 will be replaced. This order will be made together with KLM and probably Northwest. At the moment they consider the 330-200/-300 and 340-300/-500/-600 and the 767-400 777-200(X)/-300(X). It seems as if the busses are prefered.

RE:Joint KLM/AZ Airbus Order?

As Flying Tiger said, I don't see the 717 as a likelihood, in that their smallest aircraft now is an MD80, the DC9s having gone. If they did buy a 100-120 seater, they would probably choose with commonality with their existing narrowbody fleet, which is A320s and A321s. The MD80s will eventually make way for the A320s/321s (possibly 319s as well).
The long haul fleet will be the 747-400s (possibly a few more as well, and don't rule out a freighter either, although they may go with Atlas for that) and a mixture of A340-5/600s and A330s, which would replace the leased 767s.
KLM is also close to a replacement of its medium - long haul fleet and I imagine the delay is due to the negotiations/discussions with Alitalia. I would forecast a joint order for about 35-40 A340-5/600s and 15-20 A330-200s, between the two.

To many 340-500/-600s. KLM is supposed to take about 12 so I would reduce totals to about 20-25. The 330-200/-300 number seems likely to me.

I don't know, KLM has always been devoutly MDD, and then Boeing. The only Airbus aircraft ever operated were the A310-200, which left the fleet in 1996, which were ordered (I think) due to the Dutch Gov't early interests in Airbus. I don't see KLM buying Airbus in the future. Although, with KLM's main partners (NWA and ALITALIA) both buying some Airbus, an order could be possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
