Changing From LGA To JFK

Thu May 15, 2003 12:59 pm

On some airline schedules, it shows a connection in New York, but at 2 different airports.

Why does the schedule show this? Is it possible to switch? Would you have to transport yourself along with your checked luggage?

For flights I've checked people in for that had LGA/JFK transfers, passengers have to reclaim their checked items in LGA and transfer over to JFK and recheckin.

I've had passengers claim they didn't know, but clearly stated on their itin. (You know, always demanding something).

LGA is JFK's Domestic Terminal, especially for AA.

Just compare LGA's Domestic schedules to JFKs, there are more flights from JFK-Bermuda then there are from JFK-Chicago Ohare.

Not a single sane person should buy a ticket with that kind of connection. Imagine that you are coming from a 7-10 hour flight from Europe or other points even further east. Then you have to pick up your luggage, spend maybe one hour in the Van Wyck "Expressway" afternoon parking lot, then re-check (long lines) at LGA, go through the security lines and then get delayed in the LGA evening zoo for another hour...

Lucky enough I live in NY. No connections needed.

I still cant believe that EWR has 25 flights or so to ORD, yet JFK has one. There has to be some market, even if just for international connections.

I agree: It's far better to get a flight into EWR and connect that to try connecting JFK-LGA. You either have to get a Taxi, which is expensive, or take your bags on the bus (there's no subway or any other rail to LGA yet, and even if there were, you'd have to go through Brooklyn and/or Manhattan to get there).

If you're booking a domestic-international connection through New York, go through EWR.

I had the same question while I was booking ZRH-JFK/LGA-CO / KMCO), USA - Florida">MCO flights on AA. For this reason I chose CO thru EWR. Has someone done this connection?

I had there same problem, well I consider it a problem. I flew in LHR-JFK and at 2am had to take a shuttle(limo) to LGA. It was costly and confusing since I am not from NYC.
