Pan Am Flew MIA-MCI-SFO?

Sat May 17, 2003 5:46 am

Hello,

Back in 1986 I flew on a Pan Am 747 from MIA to SFO, and I clearly remember that we had a stopover in MCI. Was that a usual stop? I mean what was the point in stopping in the middle of a transcon? And in MCI?? Why?

By the way the SFO-MIA leg was non-stop.

The timetables for PAA for 1986 show one nonstop MIA-SFO flight that began at the end of the year (Oct-86)- PA53 with A300/310 aircraft. Perhaps a 747 substitution and subsequent diversion?

The rest of 1986 the MIA-SFO was onestop aboard 727 aircraft. The stop early in the year was HOU, and from Feb-28 onward the stop changed to DFW.

As for MCI... PAA began the year with two nonstop destinations, DCA and MIA. By midyear (Jun-86) mainline exited and PA Express had one flight to DTW. By the end of the year (Oct-86) MCI had no service.

PA flew to HOU and not IAH? Didn't NW only fly to HOU for a while? DL and AA are the only airlines that come to mind that fly to both Houston airports.

Pan Am flew to HOU, not IAH, between Jun-85 to Apr-89.

Also, TWA flew to HOU instead of IAH for a while.
