MDW Crash Drill - Did It Happen Yesterday?

Sat May 17, 2003 6:25 am

There was supposed to be a crash drill staged at Chicago Midway yesterday as part of this national bioterrorism drill (which started in Seattle on Monday.) Did the crash drill actually happen?

I noticed one of our evening WN flights to MDW was delayed in the 6R penalty box yesterday... wondered if that was a result of the drill. Yet I never saw anything about the drill on the late news, I thought they would have had some coverage.

Redngold,

I believe it did take place yesterday at MDW. I can double check for you when I look at the paper today.

I believe it did because we were told to expect delays coming out of MDW.

It did took place and they used a military helicopter and a ATA 737-800 (Registration might have been N301TZ, not sure though) and it went well. Donald Rumsfeld and the other special guests(Including Mayor Daley) were there to see it happen. The air traffic and the traffic on the streets around the airport experienced delays during it but all was well. Even before yesterday Chicago Fire Department's helicopters were flying over the city which gave me a opportunity to get a photo but didn't have my camera. And one of those days was a nice one but it's ok, it will be back in the air patrolling the city or for a pass-by at the Air and Water Show.
