Is this USAir's way to make peace with PIT? I mean with them pulling the no signing of leases prior to exiting bankruptcy. Do not get me wrong I am always glad to see these flight restored, as living in CLE it is very possible to drive there and take advantage of the flights USAir offers from PIT.

Ahh, L2F, we already have a LGW flight from right here in good ole CLE. Why waste gas?  Smile

Well, it's good to see that US can still afford transAtlantic service from PIT. They're not in as much trouble as they thought, I guess.

Well I do like CO tho I would rather fly a wide body over the pond. Before you say anything I have flown ATA to FRA on a 757 before. I want a carrier that offer PTV in coach and the 757's of CO do not right now.

I am surprised that CO doesn't use a 767-200 for the CLE to LGW service, it has about the same capacity as a 757-200, but it is a lot roomier and better suited for long haul international flights.

As far as US restoring the LGW and FRA to PIT, this looks like a sign that they intend to keep some sort of a hub there. Is there enough O&D traffic in PIT to support those flights?

Yes, there is demand, especially to FRA.

Continental does not fly a 767 from CLE to LGW because the plane is too large and heavy when loaded with the fuel required for the transatlantic trip to LGW for the type of runways at CLE right now. Loads are also not apparently good on the route (CO plans to suspend it after the summer 2003 travel season). It uses the 767-200's it has (only 10 in the fleet) on routes that warrant it and perhaps make more money.

As for the resumption of PIT-Europe flights on US, it is interesting to note as US is using a 767-200ER for the LGW flight and an A330 for the FRA flight. I would have thought the LGW flight would require more seats but I guess not.

US has a busy summer schedule to Europe:
PIT to LGW and FRA
PHL to LGW/CDG/CO / LIRF), Italy">FCO/MAD/MAN/FRA/MUC/DUB/SNN/AMS
CLT to LGW and FRA

If I am not mistaken, don't CO's 767-200s seat even less than thier 757-200s? They just have more F seats. 762s are not as big as most people think.

Referring to PIT-FRA, USAirways actually has subsidies on PIT-FRA, I believe with Brayer. It is more profitable. In fact, while PIT-CDG/LGW have been suspened on and off a few times since Sept. '01, this was the first PIT-FRA suspension.

I never knew that they stopped serving PIT-FRA. When was this?
I always had the picture in mind that there were 3 planes (2 A333(PIT, PHL) and a 762 (CLT)) a day at FRA. Well I seem to live just a little too far away from the airport to know everything going on...
