Sun May 18, 2003 9:51 am

I have just come acrosss www.seatmap.com and wondering its accuracy!!!!!!

I noticed you cannot do a search for Y for SQ which makes sense as they do not pre allocate seats. Any other quirks about this seat.

Otherwise i thought it was great!!!!!!!

seat guru is only avaliable for US airlines I think.

I really like this site. On a few US Airways flights I'm going on in a few weeks, there are 14/16, 15/16, and 12/12 seats in First Class still available, so I stand a good chance to upgrade.

As far as accuracy it looks like this site gives you the same information a travel agent sees. It isn't, however, what the airline sees so it's not always accurate. Only the airline will see the exact number of seats and if the flight is oversold.

Classes -
First: F
Business: J
Coach: Y

I compared these maps to the seat maps on the airline websites, and most of them matched almost perfectly. Those that weren't the same only had a discrepancy of one or two seats. This is good because it gives seat maps for airlines that don't publish seat maps on their websites. Overall, this site seems to be very good.

Thank you very much for posting that link.
This kind of site is exactly what I was searching for for a long time.
I just found out that I had a lot of luck by reserving some good seats on my DL flight from FRA to ATL in September as there are very few window seats left.
And when you´re checking some transatlantic flights during the next few days, business doesn´t seem t to be too bad at this time...

I typed in E for coach! I like this site, it's very informing, and you can tell who's gonna sit by you in a few days when you go to fly!

Re-the seat map how can it show seats occupied a month ahead? These are not reserved seats as there is another icon for that. So what does this mean exactly? Can anybody confirm some random flights with an actual CRS?

And what do the letters "L" and "R" next to the class designator mean? Are there any other letters?

I didn't find it accurate at all for my Qatar Airways flight. It showed 20 something passengers on my Doha to London flight a couple of days before the flight. In reality there were near 200 passengers on the flight.

I had my mother (travel agent) check it with Worldspan CRS for two flights coming up this weekend. The flights were both Northwest operated by Mesaba flights, an Avro RJ and a Saab 340. The info on the website was the same thing that she could find in her CRS.
Don't take this information as completely accruate, however. As QatarAirways pointed out, there can be huge differences. The airlines aren't going to release the whole truth about their bookings even through CRS. Some airlines will also be more accurate than others, I'd guess US and European are probably the safest.

That is pretty impossible unless you know someone at the airline concerned.

The numbers next to the class code are not the actual seats left. The largest number is 7 the smallest is 1. They are only an indication of the flight status and differ from one destination to another, even on the same airline. For example a destination where there are a considerable number of no shows, the flight may be overbooked but still showing as saleable.

LMML,

I understand this as I have a relative who owns a travel agency and I learned a little about the systems. I was talking about the actual seat map.

most airlines do not allow advance seat assignment.... so don't trust a seat map if your life depended on it! (for load information)

Hi guys,
Thanks for the link it just made me phone up an airline. At the counter the lady told me there wasn't any window seats left anymore, looking at the seatmap here I saw there were some. Funny enough when I phoned the airline up the girl gave me the possibilities which were shown free on the seat map. Thanks for posting the link! Just made me avoid 8 hours cramped in the middle and got my a window seat!

I just checked my flight to HNL from LAX and it says we have a tripple 7 for the way there, and a 767-300 on the way back. Expedia says that it's a 777 both ways. Who is right? Flight 53, LAX-HNL June 21, Flight 54 HNL-LAX June 26.

Fanoftristars:

I'm assuming that you're on UA 53 and UA 54?

Anyway, I checked with both the webite and Expedia.com. They both show 777 for UA 53 and 763 for UA 54.

I checked out seatmaps.com - and I love this site! But I want to know is this: How accurate is it with Air Canada and other Canadian carriers? However, do keep in mind that WestJet does not usually allow pre-selected seating - you have to go to the check-in at the airport on the day of your flight to get your seating assignment. I don't know if the same holds true for JetsGo and Canjet - both are discount carriers, too.

the system uses a GDS, such as Galileo, Worldspan, Sabre, etc to put up a seat map. It does NOT show blocked seats or unavailable seats.. just generic availability.

In regards to Galileo, it shows sell availability only... unless you use the direct access feature (putting in an airline IATA code) and it will be a bit more thorough in the fare buckets.

The seatmap feature doesn't seem to work, at least for me. I type in all the information needed (flight #, date, fare class, dep/des city, etc...) to pull up the seatmap of the flight and it says, "seatmap feature unavailable at this time. Anyone else having the same problem or is it just me?

OK, so it looks like in my case seatmap.com is correct. UA's pdf timetable show's it a 777, and when I booked on expedia it showed a 777. The e mail that expedia sent me showed it was a 777 as well, and it booked us in seats 26 A & B which I was excited about because on the 777, those seats are in Economy Plus. Maybe there was an equiptment change??? I should have known  Smile Oh well, hopefully I'll be sleeping and it won't matter that there's no 777  Sad

That shows a limited amount of seats available. Most GDS's offer 3 numbers for each bucket, well 4: 1) 9's across the board (Y9 B9 M9 K9..), 2) 7's across the board (Y7 B7 M7 K7..), 3) 4's across the board (Y4 B4 M4 K4), or actual availability in the fare buckets (ie Y9 B9 M7 H4 Q3 V0, etc..)

When I tried it, It said that the seat map option was not available. Is this just temporary or has everybody else gotten it.

It works on and off in regards to the seat map feature. Certain airlines may not be listed though so it depends on what particular airline you choose. For example, I use it for Continental and there are times when the seat map displays, and times when it doesn't
