Yes.... they'd like it to be an A330, but they're utilizing those pretty hot already.

Have you considered DL from ATL-FRA?

Where are you originating... the UA/LH codeshare also could give you the opportunity for a PTV on UA from IAD, the LH to the Middle East.

Please don't get me wrong, but... honestly, are those freaking PTVs so important that they could make the difference at the ticket counter?! Legroom, or service, or safety records are important, but do you really need to be able to watch some old movies and boring sudsers, or play Tetris Yawn to entertain yourself while you could be enjoying a nice journal or even a BOOK? I've been wondering for quite some time why so many people care so much about the PTVs; hell, I'd be grateful for every moment I don't have a TV getting on my nerves!

I'd appreciate any answers to this mystery!

Cheers,

Take Swiss if your after the PTVs. ORD-ZRH-THR are all operated using A332 aircraft. Remember swiss also flies from MIA (Md 11), EWR (A332), JFK (a332), washington (a332), boston (a332), montreal (a332) and LAX (md 11). Though be warned ORD-ZRH is often upgraded to md 11 aircraft from what I have heard. Service is good with swiss.

I agree, I've gone along with No Video IFE on a 10 hour flight just fine....sleep on the way out on an overnighter.
Audio IFE is nice, but standard.

From Huntsville, taking DL to ATL then CDG will definitely get you a PTV... then I presume AF will fly you to Tehran.

UA is also a good choice, you can get a PTV transatlantic to FRA the LH the rest of the way.

These are really the only airlines I have experience with personally.

My opinion aside, the PTV's are obviously important to customers. If they weren't the airlines wouldn't spend tons of money to install and maintain them.

I can't say on some of these, but I flew Swissair in June of 2001 between ATL and ATH and the service was amazing. ATL-ZRH and back were both on A330s. The flight attendants were constantly coming around with a meal, a snack, a drink service, or just something like hot towels. The food from ZRH back to ATL was better than a lot of stuff I've eaten in restaurants (never thought you'd hear that about airplane food!). It was really very very good. The seats were comfortable as well. They contoured perfectly to my body and had adjustable lumbar support. There are PTVs with reasonable entertainment, airshow, and fun games. My only complaint about Swissair was that the legroom on the A330s was somewhat limited (31" I believe), but not terrible. Just a bit tight. I know that Swiss is not Swissair, so they could be different for the better or worse, but even if Swiss is worse, their A330s, which have not changed, are still very comfortable. Besides, there is really good chocolate for very cheap in the ZRH duty free shops!

"Take Swiss if your after the PTVs. ORD-ZRH-THR are all operated using A332 aircraft. "

Negative, it could be a MD-11 like today. Ive noticed that Swiss sporadically throws in MD-11s during the summer.

Aloges:
Not to forget on longhauls: Talk to other passengers. I love to do this during longhaul night flights...just go to the galley, that's where you meet other insomniacs. I got so much real insider information about where to go and where not, waht to do and what not during such night talks...you wouldn't believe it.

As for PTV: Not one Euro more if it made the difference between having PTV or not!!!

And if I had one, I'd gladly trade it for one cm more legroom, that much is certain!

But I'm afraid there are many kids and event flyers around, and I suppose PTV is then much more important.
I know it's only VfB but I like it!
